Car Hire

Prices vary depending on what type of car you would like, but for the most part, it is quite cheap. If you are looking for the cheapest deals, be sure to shop around as prices vary from place to place. You can find as much as 70% off the usual prices and any available special offers.

Hertz, Sixt, and other chains have airport pickups, though you might be charged extra for this service. You can also arrange hotel delivery, and there is usually no extra fee for this. If you decide to rent a car through some international brands, you will pay approximately double compared to local rental companies.

If you are visiting just Prague City, car hire is not recommended due to heavy city centre traffic.

It is advisable to have an international drivers license (also bring your regular drivers license) but not essential for people from the European Union. Driving is quite easy in Prague, and most of the roads are well signposted. Parking your car in Prague city centre is not too difficult with most hotels offering a car park.

Car Sharing: An Alternative to Car Rental in Prague.

You can book a car over the internet, and it will be waiting for you at the airport. Just show your driver’s licence and passport or other ID at the car hire centre. The minimum hire period is usually 24 hours, and there is normally an age limit of 21. Cars hired from some international hire companies can be returned to other countries around Europe.

If you drive faster than is permitted, the radar will take a photo of your car, and a fine will be sent to the car rental company or registered car owner. This car rental company will then impose an additional charge on you (via your credit card).
