Step into History with Kingdom Come: Deliverance II – New Initiative Attracts Visitors to Real-Life Game Locations!

From Gaming Legend to Tourist Phenomenon

A recently signed memorandum has brought together municipalities, tourism promotion associations, government organizations, and private operators to harness the power of the game Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. This Czech gaming gem from Warhorse Studios intricately recreates the atmosphere of early 15th-century Bohemia, with two primary locations taking center stage:

  • Kutná Hora and its surroundings – once the second most important town in medieval Bohemia and a hub for silver mining and coinage.
  • Czech Paradise – a stunning landscape filled with rock formations and castles, including the iconic Trosky Castle.

“Given that this is the most successful Czech video game, with significant popularity internationally, there’s a strong likelihood that both domestic and foreign players will want to visit the real locations where Henry of Skalice embarks on his adventures,” states František Reismüller, Director of the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism. He adds: “The authentic atmosphere of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II serves as a remarkable introduction to Czechia for the world. Both well-known and lesser-known historical sites can attract new visitors and provide them with a unique experience. Our collaboration with KCD Live will bridge the gap between the game world and real tourism, inspiring exploration of Czech history right where the action unfolds.”
The Game World as a Gateway to Medieval Bohemia

CzechTourism is actively promoting the tourism link with the Kingdom Come phenomenon through a dedicated section on the Ways from Boredom portal and via social media channels. Visitors from abroad can find recommendations for exploring (not just) medieval Bohemia on the VisitCzechia website. Information about the game and opportunities to explore its real-life locations are also shared by CzechTourism’s international offices. An extensive promotion campaign is underway, featuring an online search initiative on Google targeting neighboring countries (Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Austria) as well as further markets like the UK, Hungary, and Switzerland. Prominently featured is the Kingdom Come theme, inviting tourists to discover the Czech locations associated with this popular game.

KCD Live: Bringing the Game Map to Reality

The KCD Live project was launched by tourist destination operators responding to the growing interest from players in visiting the real places highlighted in the game’s story. The new web portal www.kcdlive.eu serves as a central hub for information on tourist routes, themed tours, and interactive experiences inspired by the game.
“Players are eager to immerse themselves in the real-life locations from the game. KCD Live enables them to walk in the footsteps of Henry of Skalice, explore actual sites, and experience the adventure in an authentic setting. Our experience with the first game demonstrated that it attracted thousands of tourists to familiar virtual locations. Now, through a coordinated effort, we can offer a more comprehensive experience,” explains Ondřej Slačálek, project coordinator for KCD Live.

Kutná Hora and Surroundings: The New Epicenter of Gaming Tourism

A primary focus of the KCD Live project is Kutná Hora, which features prominently in the plot of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. The city and its surrounding areas are braced for an influx of tourists from both within Czechia and overseas. “Kutná Hora is a key location in the story of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. We anticipate heightened interest in our town and other medieval landmarks in the region. KCD Live will facilitate effective utilization of this potential, offering visitors unique thematic experiences,” concludes Jakub Kulhánek, Director of the Central Bohemian Tourism Centre.

The KCD Live project paves the way for showcasing Czechia as a distinctive destination for cultural and experiential tourism, leveraging the exciting phenomenon of modern gaming.
