Where to go on a trip around the Czech Republic in the footsteps of Jára Cimrman?

The first official museum of the Czech genius and adventurer was opened in the summer of 2013 in the U Čápa recreational area in Příchovice near Kořenov in the Jizera Mountains. In the vicinity of the museum there is also The Jára Cimrman Lighthouse, an observation tower built according to the project Martin Rajnis, who, among other things, designed the post office at the top of Sněžka.

It is common knowledge that no one knows Cimrman’s true form, yet the Master is commemorated by a number of statues and memorial plaques. The most famous works include the statue of Jára Cimrman in the fog on the balcony of the Jas cinema in Tanvald. On this occasion, the cinema was also renamed the Jas Jas Cinema, and the surroundings of the town are Cimrman’s cycle path.

Jára CimrmanAnother of Cimrman’s many possible guises captures bust in the square in Lomnica, the symbolic beginning of the marked Cimrman Trail. The statue of Jára Cimrman in the form of a reclining concrete statue can also be found at Kaproun railway station on the line of the narrow-gauge railway from Jindřichův Hradec to Nová Bystřice at the place where he got off or rather was thrown off the train. You can see Cimrman’s head from behind at the memorial plaque in Mišov; from it you will learn that he narrowly missed this village in May 1915.

It is also known the place of Cimrman’s death. It took place on 21 May 1921 under Husa Hill in the Kokořín region. According to the obituary on the memorial, it was supposed to have happened by accident, when he was returning from the market in Mělník, where he bought 10 geese. Unfortunately, he was using his latest invention, a compressed air and water car, to get around. There is a healing spring on site, but unfortunately it is not flowing.

Cimrman’s chestnut tree, the globe in a nutshell and the lowest tower

Near the municipal office of the village of Sklené in the Highlands grows beautiful Cimrman’s chestnut tree. Guess who cut down the chestnut tree from which it grew?

Above Březová nad Svitavou visit the Well-hidden Lookout Tower of Jára Cimrman; the sign to it leads from two sides for sure, but the most original lookout tower is Cimrman’s lookout tower near Nouzovo, whose Height is listed as negative -0,15 m. This means that the tower does not rise above the terrain, on the contrary it is in a kind of valley. Curious is also the monument to Jára Cimrman in the town park in Pečky, an enlarged copy of Cimrman’s school equipment called The globe in a nutshell.

jara cimrmanA number of streets, footbridges and sidewalks are named after our national genius, such as Jára da Cimrman Street in Olomouc and Roztoky, Jára Cimrman Street in Brno, Poděbrady, Dačice, Homol and Horšovský Týn, the Járy Cimrman Walkway in Tišnov or the Járy Cimrman Circular Avenue in Stará Hut.

Curious Járy Cimrmana Nábřeží street in Lipník nad Bečvou; of course it is not by the water at all, at least it is painted on the walls. On the nature trail through the Radbuza valley you can walk along the Jára Cimrman footbridge.
