Exciting News: Prague’s Vltava Philharmonic Breaks Ground in 2027!

The Vltava Philharmonic, which is set to be constructed near the Vltavská metro station along Prague’s C Line, is projected to cost around 16.53 billion crowns (not including VAT), as indicated in the documents endorsed by city officials on Monday.

This total encompasses not just the building of the concert hall itself but also includes a variety of infrastructure improvements in the adjacent areas.

To support the funding of this initiative, the city has sanctioned the establishment of an endowment fund aimed at gathering contributions from private donors as well as institutions.

The anticipated cost for constructing the philharmonic stands at 11.65 billion crowns, with construction set to commence in 2027 and an expected completion date in 2032.

Investment Strategy in Multiple Phases

The undertaking will be split into ten distinct investments, supervised by the city’s investment and transport departments along with the Prague Public Transport Company. In addition to the allocated 11.65 billion crowns for the concert hall, another billion crowns has been set aside to cover ongoing operational expenses.

The rest of the budget will be designated to enhance transportation and public spaces, which includes updates to the roads, the Vltava embankment, and improvements to the Vltavská metro station.

The Bjarke Ingels Group, a reputable architectural firm from Denmark, is tasked with designing the Philharmonic after their success in an international competition. The cost of developing the project documentation is projected to reach one billion crowns before taxes.

Transforming the environment surrounding the Philharmonic will necessitate substantial investments. The planned upgrades for public areas are expected to cost around 410 million crowns (excluding VAT).
