Prague Easter: Engaging and Fun-Filled Workshops, Tours, and Activities

What can you look forward to during this year’s Easter festivities? In addition to many stalls filled with Easter decorations, pom poms, beautifully painted eggs, arts and crafts, flowers, and tasty refreshments including wine, hot chocolate, ciders, pancakes, cheese, sausage specialties, goulash, soups, and grilled foods. Your eyes, ears, and taste buds are sure to be delighted.

Prague Easter in the squares, museum, and zoo

Easter Market StaromákThe largest and most well-known Easter markets will be hosted at Prague’s Old Town Square starting on April 5. The festivities will commence on the first day of the Fair on April 1st. A spring village featuring sales stalls designed with national traditions in mind, overflowing with flowers and Easter themes. The Easter market not only offers entertainment and a variety of delicious food and drinks but also authentic demonstrations of traditional customs and crafts. Craftsmen such as pomlazek knitters, Easter egg painters, master blacksmiths, and other artisans will showcase their skills right in the market square. Additionally, seventy stalls will feature handcrafted tablecloths and wooden toys. Naturally, there is a vibrant cultural program, and you can look forward to traditional folklore performances, engaging themed events, and live folk bands. You are invited to visit “Staromák” and celebrate the most significant Christian holidays until April 27, 2025.

Easter MarketsBeginning on Saturday, April 5, the Easter Market on náměstí Míru in Vinohrady will attract visitors with various goods, and you can also enjoy the Easter markets at Wenceslas Square. On April 5, you will have the chance to learn how to cook traditional Easter dishes; on April 12, you can create your own Easter wreath; and on April 13, don’t miss the program “We are going to Easter” – a fun tour of the Ethnographic Museum paired with an arts workshop where you can weave a pomlázka or craft a bunny out of eggs. Spaces for these spring workshops are limited, so it’s best to sign up soon! The Easter events at Prague Zoo coincide with the Easter long weekend, specifically on April 19 and 20. The zoo will host special activities aimed at enhancing the experience for its animals, which will also delight visitors. Look forward to seeing how the animals enjoy their Easter toys and treats!

Wonderful Easter with children

Easter BunniesFamilies can also partake in a truly special program for kids at the Rückl glassworks in Nizbor. On Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19, a creative workshop will be available for children where they can decorate gingerbread cookies and have an artist paint their faces in colorful Easter designs according to their wishes. Adults also have the opportunity to blow Easter glass eggs or engrave various designs on crystal according to their imagination. Another exciting activity involves creating spring decorations; using flowers and Easter-themed accessories, you can craft a unique decoration in a crystal bowl to take home and enjoy. It’s advisable to secure your experiences online ahead of time.

The Zelčín Zoopark will host an egg hunt! Throughout the Easter holidays, eggs will be hidden around the Zoopark, each containing colorful eggs filled with small and large prizes. As Easter arrives, it marks the beginning of warmer spring days, and the gates of the Eden Environmental Entertainment Centre will also open in the Highlands. Celebrate Easter in a modern way among the animals in nature! Expect lots of fun and attractions, including horse rides, a bouncy castle, encounters with animals and chicks, carriage rides, a petting zoo, as well as many new animals and their young ones, all with demonstrations of traditions and much more. In Jindřichův Hradec, the castle and chateau will provide popular Easter tours. There’s plenty to delight fans of floral arrangements, scavenger hunts, and mystery puzzles, and on White Saturday, those who love to combine the holiday with delicious food will not be disappointed!

The Beet TrackYou can also take the kids on April 19 and 20 for Easter rides on the Beetroot Railway in the Cologne region. Throughout the weekend, refreshments, souvenirs, and unique beetroot products will be available. All trains will be pulled by a steam locomotive. The scent of spring fills the air, and Easter celebrations are a beautiful part of this season. At Špilberk Castle, special Easter activities will take place. On April 17 and 18, boys can knit simple pom poms from willow branches and decorate them with colorful ribbons. Meanwhile, girls can try their hand at crafting a spring wreath or create lovely fabric and paper ornaments for Easter eggs.

Easter in open-air museums

Various Easter programs will also be held in open-air museums. From April 12 to 20, every weekend, you can experience Easter in a miner’s cottage in Příbram, which features demonstrations of Easter customs and crafts related to celebrating Easter in the families of former miners in Příbram. The Easter exhibition, showcasing traditional folk customs, will run from April 1 to 27 in the timbered Bethlehem in Hlinsko. You will discover, for instance, why the Sundays leading up to Easter have unusual names like Kihavná, Družebná, or Pražná. Moreover, you will learn about the customs that accompanied Good Friday and White Saturday, as well as what traditional ornaments on Easter eggs can signify.

EasterDuring the Easter holiday, in the Central Povltava region, examples of traditional customs and crafts will be demonstrated authentically in the Vysoký Chlumec open-air museum during the exhibition Easter in Vysoký Chlumec, running from April 17 to 20. Discover how Easter was celebrated on the farm at the historic Šrámek farmhouse in Piletice, open from April 17 to 21. On April 19 and 20, look forward to Easter celebrations at the Podorlice open-air museum in Krňovice. As for April 19, expect festive activities at Dlask’s farm near Turnov. Additionally, a new exhibition titled “Birth, Life, Death” will be available, showcasing the life cycle within traditional folk environments and their significant turning points.

Easter in RoznovA richly engaging three-day program is set to take place during Easter from April 19 to 21 at the Wallachian Open Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. The museum will be open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and a diverse and captivating schedule is planned for visitors. The core of the activities over all three days will be centered in the Wooden Town. Throughout the Easter weekend, it will be alive with demonstrations of both traditional Easter and spring customs. Attendees will enjoy performances by folklore groups, learn to knit pomlázek, and see unique methods of decorating Easter eggs. The Easter Feast program will include a dramatic burial of Marena and engaging rounds featuring clapper walkers.

…or in castles and palaces?

Chateau ValticeAn enjoyable and informative program will be available from Friday, April 18 to Monday, April 21, at Easter at Helfštýn Castle. You can also enjoy Easter at Lemberk Castle from April 17 to 21, where you can see demonstrations of Easter customs practiced by the local nobility. At Valtice Castle, a rich program is scheduled from April 18 to 21, which includes open access to the main tour circuit every day, including Easter Monday, along with stands featuring handicrafts in the inner courtyard, with delicious refreshments and Valtice wines. The castle courtyard will be adorned with large decorative eggs and various Easter ornaments, while the dulcimer music will fill the air in the courtyard.Bítov CastleDon’t forget about Easter at Křivoklát Castle! As always, you’ll find a diverse selection of goods at the Easter Fair, along with many delicious treats, while the first courtyard will host an exciting all-day program. A Spring Festival will also take place in Sovinec from April 18 to 21, featuring a variety of fencing, dance, and theatrical performances in the fifth courtyard throughout the extended weekend. Additionally, Bítov Castle will celebrate Easter from April 17 to 21. Visitors will have the chance to experience the beautifully decorated interiors of the castle with Easter themes, including a tour that concludes in the castle kitchen, where the preparation of spring dishes from Old Bohemian cuisine will occur on Saturday and Sunday, April 19 and 20.
