On Saturday, April 26, 2025, walking and biking routes ranging from 10 to 130 kilometers will guide you along the beautiful dykes of the ponds. In addition, from Thursday through Saturday, May 15 – 17, 2025, the exciting Vodňany Fishing Days festival will fill the streets of Vodňany with joy. This vibrant celebration features not only fish and fishing activities but also a diverse range of concerts, theatrical performances, shows by children’s groups, and intriguing exhibitions. Throughout the season, you can participate in numerous fishing competitions. Public events include the Žerotice Fishing Races on Saturday, May 10, 2025, and the Kácov Night Fishing Races on May 31.

Summer Festivities: Čochtan’s Třeboň and Jakub Krčín Festival

The Historical Festivities of Jakub Krčín in Třeboň may not solely focus on fishing, but we can certainly appreciate how many ponds filled with carp owe their existence to the fishmonger Jakub Krčín. From July 18 to 19, 2025, the city will burst with life during these historical celebrations. Enjoy performances from sword fighting and dance troupes, along with entertainment for children featuring a puppet theatre, jugglers, and falconry displays. Visit craft markets and witness engaging historical competitions. A highlight of the festivities is the magical nighttime torchlight procession to the dam of the Svět pond, concluding with a stunning fireworks display over the water.

Čochtanova TřeboňWhile it may be true that Čochtanova Třeboň isn’t a traditional fishing event, it is a delightful children’s festival that playfully introduces young ones to the enchanting world of water. Perfect for families with kids who share a love for ponds, fish, and fairy tales, this year’s festival is scheduled for August 8-10, 2025, in Třeboň, and will be dedicated to all things fish and fishing. Exciting activities await, including competitions in the whimsical realm of Čochtan, where kids can paint water mugs, catch Třeboň carp, and even sing their hearts out in a talent competition for a chance to win prizes. Fishing dads are encouraged to bring their rods along for a fun outing.

Kaprobraní na BítověThe annual Kaprobraní, or Castle Caprobrany, marks the conclusion of the season at Bítov Castle and will take place on September 28, 2025. This exciting sixteenth annual event celebrates the castle season and features performances by the Buhurt Historical Fencing Group at 10 AM and 3 PM, showcasing the Settlers of New France. You can try your skills at axe throwing, archery, and shooting with air rifles. Visitors will also enjoy an exhibition of historical weapons and tools from the time of the Last of the Mohicans. Children have the unique opportunity to fish for carp in the castle pond. Refreshments will be available for both kids and adults, with a cozy fire roasting marshmallows. During the day, guided tours of the castle will be offered, with the last tour starting at 4 PM.

Stairs2HellGet ready for the challenging Stairs2Hell, a thrilling international carp fishing competition where competitors can win an impressive twenty thousand euros along with trophies and prizes for the team that catches the heaviest carp. This intense event will take place from October 4th to 11th, 2025, at the Novomlýn reservoir, the largest fishing area in Moravia, featuring one hundred teams of two to three members each. Beneath the water, participants will encounter a submerged forest, remnants of villages, and even flooded vineyards. However, these treasures are now hidden under sharp mussels. Keep in mind, it’s catch-and-release fishing, so all caught fish must be released back into the reservoir as quickly as possible.

Autumn: A Season for Big Catches

Specific dates are not usually confirmed until September, but you can already set aside the days of October 17 to 19, 2025 for the ceremonial catching of fish in the largest Czech pond, Rožmberk. Come witness this impressive giant reveal its treasures and show its seabed! The Třeboň Fishery will showcase the height of traditional fishing methods, demonstrating how to haul and catch fish. Fresh fish will be available for purchase at various locations, along with delicious fish dishes made from Třeboň carp and other local fish. Additionally, there will be supplementary programs to enjoy. If you’re eager to learn more about fishing and the Czech pond industry before autumn, be sure to visit the modern interactive Fishing exhibition at the National Museum of Agriculture.

Farmers Markets Featuring Fresh Fish and Top Fish Restaurants
