Tragic Incident: 12-Year-Old Boy Fatally Struck by Tram in Prague

A tragic incident occurred late Thursday morning when a 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by a tram on Milady Horákové Street in Prague, close to the Hradčanská tram stop.
Despite the prompt and dedicated efforts of bystanders and emergency responders, unfortunately, the child lost his life at the scene of the accident.
The collision happened shortly after 10 a.m, as confirmed by police spokesperson Jan Daněk, who reported that resuscitation efforts began immediately after the incident took place. The boy, who police later identified as a foreign national, was pinned underneath the tram, necessitating a rescue operation by firefighters to free him.
“We are currently addressing a situation involving a collision between a tram and a 12-year-old boy. Resuscitation efforts are ongoing,” Daněk shared with the Czech news source Novinky.cz.
Witnesses on the scene initiated lifesaving resuscitation with instructions provided over the phone until paramedics arrived to take over the situation.
Karel Kirs, a spokesperson for the Prague Ambulance Service, reported that medical teams, including a doctor and transport inspector, dedicated themselves to resuscitation efforts for a duration of 45 minutes. Tragically, despite their extensive efforts, the child could not be brought back to life.
“Operators and bystanders started emergency resuscitation via phone, which we continued upon arrival. Unfortunately, despite everyone’s hard work, the child died at the scene,” Kirs stated.
Authorities have initiated a criminal investigation to ascertain the specific circumstances surrounding the accident. According to police reports, the tram driver has tested negative for alcohol.
Following this incident, tram services between Vítězné náměstí and Hradčanská have been halted. Trams that were on their way to the city center have been rerouted to travel through Brusnice and Prague Castle.
Traffic in the vicinity continues to face partial restrictions, with police, emergency personnel, and firefighters still active at the scene to manage the aftermath.
