A Spring Trip to Plakánek Valley

BledleIf you are fortunate enough to have beautiful weather during your holidays, make sure to take a trip from Kost Castle to the charming Plakánek Valley. This nature reserve is recognized as one of the most stunning areas within the Bohemian Paradise Protected Landscape. Its allure is largely attributed to the impressive castle that has majestically overlooked the picturesque valley for over 500 years. The valley itself is rocky and predominantly covered in pine forests, and it was named after the Plakánek family, who produced charcoal in this area during the 17th century under the guidance of Heřman Černín. You’ll also discover several sandstone quarries used to source material for building the Kost Castle and the church in Sobotka.

The walking route is 10.5 km long and includes 11 stops, introducing you to intriguing and mysterious sites from the former Kostecký estate. On this circular nature trail, you can appreciate folk architecture, wander among stunning sandstone formations, enjoy the fresh air, and perhaps catch a glimpse of protected crayfish in the nearby stream.
