Šternberk Castle will welcome visitors during the entire Easter holiday, specifically from Thursday, April 17 to Monday, April 21, 2025. The castle will be open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be guided tours available on both set visitor paths. The Easter tours will offer enhanced explanations from the guides, showcasing not only the fascinating history of Šternberk Castle but also the rich traditions and significance surrounding Easter itself. Guests will discover many intriguing details about this important spring festival. Within the castle’s historic rooms, an Easter exhibition will be set up, featuring beautiful floral arrangements.
The Easter celebrations will also feature a much-loved children’s Easter fair taking place on Saturday, April 19. On Easter Monday, April 21, you can look forward to Baking Judas in the Liechtenstein kitchen. At the conclusion of each tour, every visitor will receive a small piece of food as a token of appreciation for exploring the castle. This tasting experience will be included in all of the tours offered on Monday, which traditionally finish in the Liechtenstein Kitchen.
Šternberk Castle is historically significant as the ancestral home of the Moravian branch of the Šternberk family, which has ties to descendants of the Czech King George of Poděbrady, the Princes of Minsterberg, and eventually The Liechtensteins. The castle experienced a period of neglect until it underwent an extensive renovation, in line with the Romantic historicism movement, at the end of the 19th century. Under the direction of the Viennese architect Karl Gandolph Kayser, it was transformed into an elegant mansion designed to meet the tastes and needs of the modern aristocrat John II, boasting historic furniture, paintings, sculptures, tapestries, and even a striking Art Nouveau elevator. Additionally, visitors will have the chance to explore the technically fascinating yet often overlooked unique structure of the Ice House.
