Discover Exquisite Monastic Brews at the Břevnov Beer Festival in Prague!

On April 26, enthusiasts of beer will come together at the Břevnov Monastery Brewery to celebrate the second annual festival at the site of Czechia’s oldest monastery, which was established in 993.
The main attraction of this festival is a collaboration between five unique Czech monastery breweries, all gathered through the Pilsner Urquell Brewers’ Choice initiative.
Each brewery has crafted its own distinctive “Pilgrimage Beer”, experimenting with smoked malt in various styles and proportions. In total, seven exclusive smoked beers will be on offer, providing attendees with a unique opportunity to explore the rich diversity of monastic brewing all in one spot.
Additionally, they will be joined by a distinguished guest from Slovakia’s Červený Kláštor and Prazdroj’s Volba Sládků (Brewmaster’s Choice), completing the participant lineup.
The hosting brewery, Břevnov Monastery, has a special treat in store: a historical beer inspired by a 1585 recipe from Tadeáš Hájek of Hájek, who served as the court physician to Emperor Rudolf II.
This exceptional brew, created exclusively for the festival, offers a glimpse into the beer-making traditions of the 16th century. While last year’s event focused on showcasing the brewing process, this time the emphasis will be on sampling great beers and sharing stories.
Brewing Smoked Beer at Home
In addition to tastings, the festival features a thematic side program that explores the intriguing history of monastery brewing. Visitors can participate in guided tours of the Břevnov brewery and watch live brewing demonstrations conducted by specialists from the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague.
These informative sessions will teach attendees how to create smoked beer at home.
The event will also include lectures and cultural performances. Best of all, entry to the entire festival is absolutely free.
