Discover the Historic Opening of Neustupov Castle in Votice

Neustupov Castle stands out as a prominent landmark in the town of the same name, located in the Benešov district of Central Bohemia. In 2020, Michal Farník, the castle’s new owner, purchased it while it was in poor condition and quickly realized his goal was to restore and preserve this historical site for everyone to enjoy. Neustupov Chateau will officially open its doors to visitors following renovations on Sunday, April 27, 2025, and it will greet its first guests that day at 2:30 p.m..
Initially, it will be open to the public on weekends until the holiday season, and during the summer, it will be open every day except Mondays. Inside the castle, guests can take in the beauty of the neo-Gothic coat of arms hall, featuring intricate wooden wall panels, exquisite figural ceiling paintings from the late 17th century, as well as the stunning stucco columns, alongside the preserved areas of the original Gothic fortress. Thanks to the efforts of Michal Farník, all of these features have been beautifully restored. Visitors can also enjoy a portion of the chateau park, where the magnificent Kaplíř lime tree stands—recognized as the oldest lime tree in the entire Central Bohemian region.
Historically, a Gothic fortress existed on the same grounds where the castle now stands, serving as the residence for the Neustup family. In the 16th century, this fortress was replaced by a Renaissance chateau, characterized by its decorative sgraffito on the facade. This eastern wing still exists today, with an additional western wing probably added around the early 17th century. Over the years, many different owners have possessed Neustupov Castle, including the Radimskis, the Dohalskis of Dohalice, and the Rommbald family. The last private owners before the year 1948 belonged to the Aichelburg family.
The village has more to offer visitors as well, such as the Romanesque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which dates back to the 12th century, the parish rectory, the old village school located in the town square, the tomb of the Aichelburg counts, and a Jewish cemetery just behind the village.
