Good news for cocktail lovers in Prague! Prague Cocktail Week is happening from May 6th to 13th.

During the week, select bars, representing the finest establishments in Prague’s cocktail community, will feature specially priced drinks costing just 155 CZK. This is the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to masterfully crafted cocktails at a special discount.

A Little Bit of History…

The organizers chose to hold Prague Cocktail Week from May 6th to 13th because the first recorded definition of the term “cocktail” appeared in the May 6, 1806 edition of The Balance and Columbian Repository. This definition was introduced in a letter from a reader asking for clarification on the term.

In response, on May 13, 1806, the editor of the paper described it as a blend of spirits, bitters, water, and sugar—which is essentially the recipe for a traditional Old Fashioned. The term ‘cocktail’ was inspired by patrons who preferred their drinks made the traditional way: utilizing a brown spirit, sugar, water, and bitters.
