Experience the Alluring Oscorus in Tvarožné Lhota
If you’re not familiar with what an oscorus is (known locally as oscoruša), then make sure to head to Tvarožné Lhota on Saturday, April 26, for the 21st annual Oscorus Festival. The community has decided that the stunning and rare oscorus tree, native to Slovácko, should not be forgotten or allowed to vanish from existence.
The festivities will kick off at 1 p.m. in the Social Hall in Tvarožné Lhota. You can anticipate a traditional feast featuring aspen and fruit spirits, dishes made from aspen, sales of gooseberry trees and other uncommon trees, informative seminars and advice for growers, a traditional products fair, and the announcement of the individuals honored as the Carriers of the Oscoruša Tradition. The event will peak with an exciting raffle, delicious homemade treats, and dishes made from Oscoruš fruit, accompanied by lively dulcimer music.
Oskeruše can be found across much of central and southern Europe, but it does not grow in dense clusters; instead, it is scattered in open forests. However, the oscorus tree has many noteworthy features: It is the oldest and most fruitful fruit tree in our country. Even trees that are 300 years old can produce over a ton of fruit! It is also the most abundant species of cranesbill, featuring the largest fruit. Interestingly, the largest oscorus trees in the world can be found in Strážnice!
