Set Sail on the Brno Dam: Your Ultimate Escape from Boredom!

From now until May 18 and during the month of September, the Brno Shipping Fleet runs its boats only on weekends. However, from May 19 to September 28, 2025, the boats will operate every day. Once October starts, they will revert to sailing on weekends only. Additionally, on public holidays and during vacation times, the boats will also be operating on May 2 and 9, as well as on October 27 and 29, 2025.
The regular service travels on the route Bystrc – Rokle – Veveří Castle – Veverská Bítýška and back. You can buy tickets at the Bystrc dock or directly on the boat. There are also special ‘mobile tickets’ that allow you to combine a boat trip with visits to attractions like Veveří Castle, Brno Zoo, Špilberk Castle, Permonium Amusement Park, or VIDA Science Park. Best of all, you don’t need to enjoy everything on the same day; the ticket is valid throughout the entire cruise season. The whole journey is just under 10 km long, and it takes about 70 minutes for the boats to complete it.
The first ships began to operate here on May 5, 1946. A notable aspect of the boats at the Brno Dam is that they are powered entirely by electricity, a practice that has been in place since the 1940s. This is very important for the environment as it effectively helps prevent pollution of the Brno water reservoir from oil products and also keeps the air clean and reduces noise in this popular recreational area.
A rarity is the ship Morava
One of the unique ships in the fleet is definitely the ship Morava. It was saved and restored thanks to the passion of shipping enthusiasts, and it is recognized as a cultural monument. Over its long history, the ship has had three different names: from 1955 to 1992, it sailed as ‘Moskva,’ then it was called ‘Dallas’ until July 2020 when it was relaunched after extensive renovations and now proudly operates as ‘Morava.’
Tickets for boat rides on the Brno Dam can be purchased either at the dock before your trip or online in advance. The boats can carry not just you and your family or friends, but also bicycles, dogs, or luggage weighing up to 50 kg. A one-way ticket from Bystrc to Veveří Castle costs 110 CZK, while a ticket to Veverská Bítýška is 155 CZK.
