Wolt Launches Green Delivery Service in Prague!

Wolt is intensifying its initiatives to make deliveries in Prague more environmentally friendly.

The company has begun testing electric vehicles and e-bikes throughout the city, with the goal of decreasing emissions and enhancing the efficiency of urban deliveries.

Through its Better Cities Fund program, Wolt is allocating 2.5 million CZK to assist couriers in transitioning to zero-emission transportation. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the European organization EIT Urban Mobility.

As a part of this strategy, Wolt plans to trial 20 electric delivery vehicles in Prague over the upcoming three months. Additionally, couriers are being provided with financial incentives to opt for greener choices, and partner companies are being urged to adopt electric vehicles in place of conventional cars.

The new vehicles, including the VOK S and the SmartVélo N°3, aim to minimize traffic congestion, noise, and air pollution. The VOK S can accommodate loads of up to 120 kilograms and can travel approximately 100 kilometers on a single charge. On the other hand, the SmartVélo N°3 is designed for bike paths, capable of covering 150 kilometers while carrying up to 85 kilograms of cargo.

Wolt emphasizes that this initiative is not solely about enhancing sustainability; it is also about cost savings. “Electric vehicles can be up to 90% cheaper to operate than traditional cars,” stated Jakub Moťovský, Wolt’s Director of Strategy and Innovation for Couriers in Central Europe. He further mentioned that couriers stand to save thousands of crowns monthly by transitioning to electric options.

At present, roughly 72% of Wolt’s deliveries in the Czech Republic are made using combustion engine vehicles, ranking among the highest rates in Europe. The company aspires that shifting to electric transportation will significantly lower its carbon footprint and enhance urban living conditions.

Wolt has also rolled out a Walkers Program, enabling couriers to fulfill orders on foot or via public transport. This program has proven especially valuable in Prague’s historic core, where traffic regulations complicate bike or car deliveries.

Every week, between five and fifteen couriers participate as walkers, covering short distances of around 800 meters per delivery. Walkers have the flexibility to switch between various transportation modes based on what works best for them.

In line with its commitment to promoting urban mobility, Wolt has trained 1,000 couriers in partnership with the Dám respekt initiative, which advocates for safety and respect among all road users. “To encourage more people to utilize bikes and electric vehicles in cities, we must ensure they feel secure,” remarked Michaela Kreuzigerová, co-founder of Dám respekt.
