Discover Hrabal’s Kersko: Your Gateway to Enchanting Forest Festivals and the Renowned Writer’s Cottage

This year, the Snowdrop Festival will take place in Kersko, a place closely associated with many events in the life of the writer. Specifically, the festival will happen on Saturday, May 24, 2025. This marks the 26th edition of Hrabal’s Kersko.

The event traditionally kicks off with a morning march through Kersko, accompanied by a guided tour of locations that Bohumil Hrabal cherished. Following this, there will be a cultural afternoon programme in the forest part of the Kuba studio (Kersko 660). Attendees can enjoy theatre performances inspired by some of the writer’s short stories and engage with intriguing guests who frequently visit Hrabal’s Kersko.

In the exhibition area of the Kuba Forest Studio, a themed exhibition is always on display. In previous years, these have included showcases like the Snowdrop Festival, Postřižiny, Sharply Watched Trains, and Larks on a Thread, as well as portrait photographs of Bohumil Hrabal taken by Karel Kestner and others.

The Nymburk brewery will once again be serving Postřižín beer at the celebrations, along with a variety of refreshments, competitions, and book sales. The exhibition will also be open on this day at Hrabal’s Cottage from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

From May 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025, Hrabal’s Cottage will be open from Tuesday to Sunday at 12, 2, and 4 p.m. It is recommended to reserve a tour of the cottage and ideally purchase an e-ticket in advance.

The property where the writer once lived is open as a house museum. This means that the cottage is arranged to give visitors the feeling that the writer just stepped out for a moment. The items that Hrabal owned and used in the cottage help create a genuine experience; among the displays, you might find Hrabal’s typewriters, his chair, or even his bicycle.
