Luhačovice’s Healing Springs Reopen After a Year

Join us for the ceremony celebrating the opening and blessing of the springs, a cherished tradition marking the start of the annual spa season in Luhačovice, from Friday, May 9 to Sunday, May 11. This vibrant festival will officially welcome the spa season and celebrate the arrival of spring. The highlights of the event include the blessing of the springs on Sunday. In addition to this, visitors and residents can look forward to a lively fair, a car exhibition featuring vintage automobiles, as well as concerts and theatrical shows throughout the weekend.
Kicking things off on Friday, May 9, at 19:00, enjoy an exciting performance by KvarteTones, alongside Jiří Korn & Dance Company, all taking place at the KKC Elektra during the Opening of the Springs 2025.
Fairs, vintage vehicles, spring blessings, and plenty of music
On Saturday, May 10, the Calma fringe association will dazzle you with a parade in period costumes, and children can enjoy a historical carousel at Vila pod lipami. Explore the magical world of playful games in the Spa Park, and check out the folk crafts fair along Dr. Veselý and Dr. František Št’astný Spring Streets. Expect to hear swing, folk-rock, and dulcimer music resonating through the town. In the Spa Park, you’ll spot riders on classic bicycles and circus wagons, while at the Alpine Rose Villa, a skilled falconer will showcase his birds of prey.
On Sunday, May 11, the day starts with a Solemn Holy Mass at 10:00 a.m., followed by the traditional spring event—the blessing of the springs. This ceremony will take place along the route that includes St. Joseph Spring, Ottovka, Dr. Št’astný, Nový jubilee, Vincentka, and St. Elizabeth Chapel. If it rains heavily, the Sunday blessing will move indoors to Hale Vincentka. The day’s festivities will wrap up with a lively performance by folklore groups at 14:00 in Lázeňské náměstí and again at 16:30 in Hala Vincentka. Throughout the weekend, you can explore the Church of the Holy Family (part of the Open Gates initiative) and enjoy a special exhibition of paintings—Oil Paintings by Zdeněk Kurečka—at the Elektra Gallery.
Moraavia’s most popular spa, steeped in Dušan Jurkovič’s spirit
Luhačovice Spa holds the title of the fourth largest spa in the Czech Republic and is the most frequented spa destination in Moravia, boasting a rich tradition that spans over 300 years. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the architect Dušan Jurkovič left an indelible mark on the town, creating stunning buildings inspired by the folk architecture of Wallachia and Kysuce. The enchanting atmosphere is enriched by numerous spa villas, a distinctive colonnade, and a spacious park. After a winter pause, the colonnade is now open again, featuring a public drinking fountain that showcases the renowned Luhačovice spring, Vincentka, which is sourced from over 50 meters below the surface. Visitors can also enjoy drinking from the recently renovated Dr. František Št’astný Spring. Other notable healing springs in Luhačovice include Aloiska and Ottovka. Don’t overlook the newly renovated Sun Baths, which feature interactive exhibits about the spa industry, as well as displays focusing on Dušan Jurkovič and composer Leoš Janáček.
