Discover Robert Vano’s Artistic Journey at the Dancing House

From May 6 to October 21, 2025, the Dancing House Gallery in Prague will host a vibrant retrospective exhibition showcasing the work of Robert Van, a renowned figure in both Czech and international photography. The exhibition will include not only portraits of significant individuals and intimate male nudes but also elegant still life compositions and photographs created using a rare technique known as platinotype. This method involves using platinum and palladium salts to develop images, resulting in extraordinary longevity, subtle tones, and remarkable depth. Van is a master of this technique and one of its few modern practitioners.

The exhibition, aptly titled Robert Vano, will feature over 150 photographs in both black-and-white and color, highlighting the artist’s impressive seventy-year life and over fifty-year artistic journey.

This exhibition will also showcase previously unseen photographs from the 1970s and 1980s, alongside recent works influenced by the aesthetics of Miroslav Tichy and Sarah Moon. Additionally, it will include materials from Van’s personal collection, as well as audio and video recordings, podcasts, and the documentary titled Robert Vano – The Story of the Man directed by Adolf Zika. The exhibition provides an in-depth view of the artist’s work and life, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his distinctive style. Some of the original photographs displayed here, never before seen in any publication and personally signed by the artist, will be available for purchase.

This exhibition is closely linked to the release of a significant book, Robert Vano, published by Euromedia. Created during a challenging time in the artist’s life, it comprises over 280 images spread across more than 300 pages, featuring numerous pictures from his personal archive as well as original motion pictures that have awaited rediscovery for over fifty years.
