Empowering Adventures: How Women are Redefining Travel with Daughters and Solo Journeys

The trend of solo female travel is flourishing! A Skift Research survey from last year reveals that up to 40% of female travelers plan to travel unaccompanied this year. It’s not about solitude; it’s about the freedom to choose how to spend time. Searches for “solo female travel” on Google have surged by 1,000% over the last decade, highlighting the increasing interest of women in traveling on their own terms.
“Women are shaping the face of tourism today—making decisions, choosing destinations, inspiring others. They form an important and increasingly powerful target group. We see a rise in solo travel, as well as in multi-generational or friendship trips where women seek experiences tailored to their needs. This presents an opportunity for both product developers and destination promotion, which we reflect in our campaigns. Women are one of the key groups we aim to effectively reach and motivate to visit our beautiful country,” states František Reismüller, Director of the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism.
Women’s rides and trips with daughters
More women are embarking on “girl trips” with friends, sisters, or daughters. Whether it’s a wellness weekend, cultural festival, or gastronomic adventure, shared experiences are at the core. A study from Solo Female Travellers shows that 14% of respondents plan to travel exclusively with other women this year. Multi-generational journeys deserve special mention, with more moms taking weekend getaways with their daughters or entire families traveling together—Mother’s Day is an ideal occasion for such trips.

Women are changing tourism
The rising interest in travel among women stems from various factors: greater financial independence, a desire to invest in themselves, personal development, shared experiences, and community platforms aimed at female travelers. Key concerns include safety, authenticity, and sustainability.
According to Expedia Group, women make up 64% of global travelers and are responsible for 82% of travel decisions. A significant 85% prioritize cleanliness, 75% prioritize safety, and 70% prefer accommodations with quality amenities—from hairdryers to comfortable beds.
Women and sustainable travel
The increased interest in travel among women correlates with a stronger focus on sustainability. A survey by CzechTourism indicates that 64% of travelers aim to travel sustainably, with 68% of women expressing this desire, along with young and older respondents. Women are more likely to consider environmental and social impacts when traveling, a trend backed by international studies.
