Savor Asparagus and Wine at the Ivančice Asparagus Festival

In the lovely town of Ivančice in the Brno region, the exciting 31st edition of the Asparagus Festival will take place from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18. Local eateries are all set to present special asparagus menus along with a variety of delicious specialties. If you’re inspired, you can also buy fresh asparagus shoots to try your hand at cooking them at home. This vibrant event features a cooking demonstration, a craft market, wine tastings, live concerts, exhibitions, and an engaging program for children.
At the festival, you can sample asparagus prepared in many ways: boiled, roasted, grilled, gratinated, fried, salted, and even in sweet dishes. Additionally, raw asparagus—both green and white—will be available for purchase. It’s noteworthy that white asparagus was once a local specialty, grown here beneath unique clay hatches. While this traditional method requires diligent and careful manual work, it is what gives the white asparagus its gourmet status, making it a truly exclusive food.
But the asparagus festival offers much more than just delicious food and wine. You can gather lots of inspiration for preparing asparagus at home through exciting cooking demonstrations hosted by chefs like Petr Stupka along with Roman Paulus and Martin Kortus. Additionally, 14 local winemakers will showcase their wines in a special wine zone. The event will also feature a craft market selling fresh asparagus and a small exhibition celebrating Vladimír Menšík, as well as a display focusing on folklore from Alfons Mucha in the Alfons Mucha Memorial. Moreover, an exhibition on asparagus cultivation will add to the experience. Come experience one of the Czech Republic’s most popular gastro festivals here in Ivančice!
Fun for Children and Adults, Plus a Sunday Steam Train
Asparagus and wine are the key highlights of the Ivančice Festival, but no festival is complete without entertainment, music, and an enriching cultural program. The main stage will feature performances from local schools and clubs on Friday, and renowned musical acts will grace the stage on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the festivities will kick off with the beloved children’s duo Kája and Bambuláček, followed by Michal Hrůza and his band, and later the Děda Mládek Illegal Band. To cap off the evening, the pop-rock band Arcus will perform.
On Sunday, morning attendees can relish brass music presented by the Borš women. In the afternoon, enjoy enchanting performances by talented singers Tereza Mašková and Sara Milfajtová, along with their band, The People. A vital aspect of the festival is the wine zone, where lovely dulcimer melodies by Musica Moravica will create a delightful atmosphere throughout both days. The program also offers insightful demonstrations on how to pair asparagus with wine, including the exciting Wine and Food Duels, featuring the esteemed sommelier Pavel Chrást.
Meanwhile, children can look forward to plenty of activities in the Children’s Zone, which includes theatre shows, a historical carousel, brain games, and various other fun activities. If you’re looking for a break from the bustling square, consider visiting the cinema, where films will be screened throughout the weekend, or join the guided tours of the Ivančická Brewery. An unforgettable experience awaits as you climb the tower of the Ivančice church; from its observation gallery, you can enjoy stunning views of the entire town and its surrounding landscapes. On Sunday, train enthusiasts and adventurers will be thrilled by the opportunity to ride a steam train along the route from Ivančice to Brno.
