Czechia Takes Center Stage at Europe Day Celebrations in Bratislava!

“Europe Day is a perfect chance to showcase what Czechia has to offer, especially for the younger generation attending this event. Young Slovaks are a key target for us; they don’t face the language barriers older generations do, nor do they carry the nostalgia of a shared past. They speak English fluently and have the entire world at their fingertips. It’s our job to highlight why Czechia is a fantastic place to visit, whether for relaxation, entertainment, music festivals, sports, or exploring history, architecture, and nature. We also present a great option for those looking to study or gain work experience,” says Nora Gill, director of CzechTourism Slovakia’s foreign representation.
Celebrating European Unity and Cooperation
Europe Day is celebrated on May 9th and honors peace and unity across Europe. It marks the Schuman Declaration, which laid the foundation for European cooperation as suggested by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in 1950. This year’s event celebrated the 75th anniversary of this significant document.
Various EU institutions and embassies set up stalls in the stunning Old Market Hall in the heart of Bratislava, offering a mix of national specialties, small dishes, drinks, traditional products, and information about various attractions.
Following the opening, the venue buzzed with school groups, students keen on studying abroad, young travelers, and older visitors all eager to explore the diverse information from across Europe.
Memory Game, Gifts, and Maps
Under the Czech Republic’s flag was a collaborative stand featuring CzechTourism, the Embassy of the Czech Republic, and the Czech Centre. Representatives from CzechTourism in Slovakia provided visitors with a wealth of materials highlighting attractions and recreational activities throughout Czechia, complete with maps. A standout attraction for both children and adults was the Czech-Slovak memory game, where players matched everyday items that have different names in the two languages. Winners were rewarded with small gifts from CzechTourism.
Initial estimates suggest that several thousand visitors attended the event. Slovak President Peter Pellegrini also visited the Old Market Hall, stopping by the stand of the European Commission, which organized the event.
