Discover the Vibrant 2025 Celebration of the Vltava River: Culture and Exciting Experiences!

Embark on a Journey Along The Vltava: From The Šumava Mountains to Prague

The VLTAVA Famous & Navigable project brings a delightful array of concerts featuring the renowned Czech Philharmonic and the Prague Philharmonic Choir. This initiative also includes themed tours, informative lectures, and an exciting summer timber rafting journey that will showcase the scenic route from South Bohemia to the vibrant capital, Prague.
Bedřich Smetana stands as one of the most significant Czech composers, whose musical contributions have greatly shaped both Czech national culture and the broader landscape of classical music worldwide. Alongside notable figures like Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček, and Bohuslav Martinů, he ranks among the most celebrated Czech composers. One of his most famous compositions is the symphonic poem Vltava, which is part of the My Country cycle and beautifully narrates the journey of the Czech river from its source to its journey through diverse landscapes.
The Vltava elegantly traverses Prague for approximately 30 kilometers, serving as the city’s symbolic backbone. A total of 18 bridges span this majestic river, with Charles Bridge being the most iconic. In Prague, visitors can enjoy sightseeing cruises along the Vltava, many of which also offer delightful culinary experiences.
Timber Rafting on the Vltava

As part of the accompanying program, guests will have the excitement of witnessing a special timber raft float, journeying along the Vltava from Štěchovice to Prague’s Výtoň at the end of August 2025. This event is one leg of the so-called Vltava Relay, which aims to transport water from the source of the Vltava to the VLTAVA Famous & Navigable exhibition in the Riding Hall of Prague Castle.
The exhibition will be the centerpiece of the festivities running from September to December 2025. For the first time, it will showcase original art pieces, historical documents, and items of technical heritage related to the Vltava – including works by Josef Mánes and Egon Schiele, along with artifacts like bridges, dams, and historic boats.
