Pardubice’s Museum Night is Here: Discover Exciting Escapes from Friday to Saturday!

On Friday, 23 May, the highly anticipated Pardubice Museum Night will take place. Join us to experience a mystical atmosphere and unique activities at various museums and galleries from 17:00 to 24:00. This year’s event includes: East Bohemian Museum in Pardubice – Pardubice Castle, Gočár Gallery, Tourist Information Centre, Mázhaus Exhibition Space, Automatic Mills, Sphere, Pardubice City Gallery, U Vokolků Library Centre at Příhrádek, Institute of the Memory of the Nation Pardubice, Crematorium Pardubice, Museum Rosice nad Labem, Memorial Chateau, Chateau Pardubice – Larisch Villa, Baron Arthur Kraus Observatory DDM ALFA, Art Space NOV and the Transport Company in Pardubice.
Visitors can travel between various locations through rides provided by historic buses and trolleybuses. The Museum of Public Transport and Railways in Rosice nad Labem will deploy historical 329 or 353 trolleybuses and Karosa buses. Plus, there will be a historic motor car running along the route from Pardubice center to Rosice and back.
Pardubice Castle, Automatic Mills or Crematorium
The Museum of East Bohemia is providing free entry to the Pernštejn Residence, which is the oldest Renaissance building in Bohemia. Explore the numismatic, glass, and Lapidarium collections, as well as the castle tower. You can also check out the Exit 91/Excavations exhibition. Additionally, the Depository of Zoology will be open, and children can enjoy a juggling workshop. Registered guests will have the opportunity to participate in Guided rides via a historic bus Škoda 706 RTO LUX to learn about the architecture and urban planning of Pardubice, guided by historians from the East Bohemian Museum.
Gočár’s Gallery in the Automatic Mills welcomes you to visit the Dalibor Chatrný exhibition – Chatrný 100, where beauty can be found in fine details, located texts, and unexpected contexts. At the Dreamtime workshop, you can experiment with coloring techniques like marbling, ink, and ink splattering. Join us to create your own unique piece of art, or become part of a collaborative project that will develop overnight, connecting various elements in imaginative ways.
If you’re interested in the eerie, don’t miss the chance to visit the open Pardubice Crematorium, which will be accessible from 5 to 9 p.m.. Visitors can tour the premises independently, and staff will be available to answer any queries.
Memories of World War II and the Memory of the Nation Institute
The Chateau Memorial will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.. All attendees are invited to join guided tours of the exhibition, which illustrates World War II in Pardubice, highlighting the actions of the Silver A paratroopers and the accounts of the 194 individuals executed at Zámeček. The tours will occur at 17:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00, 21:00, and 22:00. A small exhibition honoring significant Jewish figures of the 20th century will be on display in the memorial’s foyer.
Meanwhile, in the tower of the Château – Larisch Villas, you can find exhibits related to the burned settlement of Ležáky, the operations of the Silver A group, and the events at Zámeček. You will be able to explore the entire tower, including part of the cellar.
Additionally, the Institute of the Memory of the Nation will also welcome visitors from 17:00 to 23:00. This museum, one of the most advanced in the Czech Republic, allows you to fully experience the past: You will relive the events of World War II alongside characters like Jaryn and Thomas, or explore the 1950s through Milena and Leopold’s eyes. Don’t miss the interactive exhibition Silent Heroism, which is a fantastic outing for families, as modern technology ensures fun for visitors of all ages. The exhibition will be presented in special mode to provide a comprehensive experience. Every 30 minutes, short documentaries on World War II in Pardubice will be screened, and throughout the evening, numerous interactive opportunities will be available.
Other Dimensions in the Sphere or at the Pardubice Observatory
The Automatic Mills will also be open at Pardubice Museum Night, showcasing the Sphere. Expect to see Story with Science on the Ball (Science on a Sphere), and enjoy hands-on activities at the science lab, chemistry lab, woodwork, and metalworking shops. Guided tours will allow you to explore other areas and classrooms, all free with no prior registration. This event is enjoyable for all ages.
For stargazing enthusiasts, the Baron Arthur Kraus Observatory at DDM ALFA will host sky observation events using binoculars. Observing will occur from the terrace of the Pardubice Observatory to view The Sun and evening celestial objects after dark. Families can create their own piece of the universe, whilst truly curious visitors can engage in programs that transport them to the far reaches of space.
