Zoo Prague Welcomes You to the Children’s Day Bash with Bongos

This coming weekend at Zoo Prague will celebrate one of the rarest mammals in the world, especially for young visitors. On Saturday, we will host the World Bong Day, where people can learn more about these critically endangered antelopes that Zoo Prague is working to protect in Kenya. Then, on Sunday, June 1, 2025, during Children’s Day, all children up to 15 years old will be able to enter Prague Zoo for just one crown. The Municipal Police of Prague will organize fun activities for the kids. Moreover, from June onwards, visitors can look forward to daily guided feedings and animal encounters—details will be available in the Zoo Prague mobile app.
On the first Sunday in June, children under 15 will get into the Prague Zoo for a symbolic fee of one crown, and a diverse range of activities will be provided by the Municipal Police of Prague. Kids can enjoy a bouncy castle, traffic school, face painting, and performers on stilts. For the adults, there’ll be live music from the Dixie Band of the Municipal Police at the Education Centre.
Mountain bongos in Kenya are facing significant decline
Mountain Bongos are stunning but critically endangered antelopes. In the forests of the Aberdare region in Kenya, only a few dozen remain. One hope for saving this subspecies lies in strengthening the wild population with individuals bred in captivity, but this must be paired with efforts to protect and restore their natural habitats. Thanks to the initiative of bongo breeder Lucie Křížová and her team, Zoo Prague is actively involved in these efforts.
On the last day of May, Saturday, visitors can enjoy two special bongo feeding sessions at 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM. They can also meet with breeder Lucie Křížová during special interactions at 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM near their enclosure next to the Hippo Pavilion. Currently, the Zoo Prague is home to four bongos: the eight-year-old females Daphne and Rayli, a young female Mimi Pipi born in 2023, and an almost three-year-old male named Mau.
Support the protection of these mountain bongos in Kenya; anyone can contribute to their survival through the Zoo Prague’s Helping Them Survive donation account. You can help by donating any amount to the account number 43-680 466 0247/0100 or by purchasing souvenirs from the Zoo Prague e-shop in the “We Help Them Survive” section. Additionally, visiting Prague Zoo also supports these efforts.
