Exciting Tips for Showcasing Stunning Summer Blooms

June, the Month of Roses
Are you interested in exploring various rose cultivars from top breeders? If so, make sure to visit the Rosarium in Hradec Kralove, which opens its doors only at certain times of the year. This year, it will be accessible for a duration of two weeks! The exciting period for roses in Hradec Kralove is happening from Saturday, June 14 to Sunday, June 29, 2025. Within the Rosarium, you can discover over 220 different rose cultivars, cultivated from around 1000 individual rose bushes. You’ll find a wide array of rose types, including large-flowered, multifloral, climbing, floribunda, ground cover, as well as English and miniature roses. You might also recall older names like tea hybrids, floribundas, and polyanthus. All these roses are quite modern innovations, developed only recently; many of them are just beginning to appear in gardens and parks, making them quite rare in other locations.
One of the most stunning locations in Děčín Castle is the Rose Garden, though this year it is undergoing renovations and will be reopening in the 2026 season. You can enjoy the collection of historical roses at the Rose Garden located near Častolovice Castle. A notable rose enthusiast was Countess Henrietta Chotková, known for cultivating roses at Velké Březno Castle. Her estate showcases a remarkable flower variety, a fragrant and historically significant rose that she herself cultivated—named “Rosengräfin Marie Henriette“. If you make your way to Teplice in Bohemia, don’t miss the exquisite roses there. A particularly fragrant flower named Gruss an Teplitz (Greetings to Teplice), bred by Rudolf Geschwind in 1897, can be found growing in front of the former colonnade behind the theatre.
Transition from June to July – A Time for Klatovy Carnations
As we kick off July, our fondness for roses continues—don’t forget the Rose Exhibition in Blatná, which will run from June 27 to 29, 2025. This year, the town will be adorned with beautiful snow-white roses. Last year, they celebrated the centenary of the first Rose Show, which was organized in 1924 by the renowned Czech rose breeder Jan Böhm. This dedicated horticulturist devoted his life to the love of roses. Miloslav Šíp carries on this important republican tradition established by Jan Böhm in Blatno. You can look forward to a wide variety of exquisite roses, including those cultivated by Böhm himself. On July 3 and 4, the Rose Festival 2025 will take place at Opočno Castle, marking its 16th year filled with the delightful aroma of stunning roses. The admission fee is standard as per the tour circuits, and these events do not increase the entry costs.
At the traditional exhibition hosted in the garden of the Klatovy Carnation Growers of the Czech Horticultural Association, you can admire hundreds of stunning Klatovy carnations in an array of striking color combinations. The exact date for the exhibition depends on the weather, but the plan is to showcase all 900 carnations on display along with about 50 to 60 varieties in glorious bloom. Typically, the exhibition occurs later in colder seasons and earlier in warmer years. This year, the event is scheduled for July 12 to 13, 2025. Entrance is voluntary. In the exhibition garden, you can explore about 60 varieties of Klatovy carnations, with limited seedlings available for purchase. For confirmation on this year’s show date, feel free to reach out to Mr. Petr Poševka, the organizer and chairman of ČSZ Klatovy Carnation, at 606 641 560. For nearly 200 years, Klatovy gardeners and horticulturists have nurtured this blossom, which Swedish botanist K. Linné elegantly named the divine flower (Dianthos). The cultivation began post-Napoleonic Wars, specifically in 1813, when Baron Volshansky returned to Klatovy from France with seeds of the small-flowered carnation from Nancy, dedicating the remainder of his life to nurturing and improving this charming plant.
July Lilies and Other Summer Blooms
If roses are known as the queens of flowers, then lilies hold the title of the queens among bulbs. They bloom beautifully in gardens from May to October, infusing their surroundings with a sense of luxury and exotic appeal. Throughout the holiday season, you’ll be able to find lilies in various colors, species, and varieties at numerous locations. One such event, the exhibition of stunning lilies, is hosted by SZO of the Czech Horticultural Association Brno Lilium, in collaboration with the Benedictine Abbey Rajhrad, taking place from Saturday June 28 to July 6, 2025. Attendees can anticipate a mesmerizing exhibition showcasing both new and classic lily varieties and their exquisite arrangements.
You can also view beautiful blooms such as lilies, fuchsias, geraniums, dahlias, daylilies, hardy perennials, and decorative plants at the Flowers exhibition centre in Lysá nad Labem. Each year, this exhibition transforms into a delightful celebration for all flower lovers, and since it will occur from Thursday, June 19 to Sunday, June 22, 2025, many consider the Flowers exhibition to be a lovely destination for their summer vacation days.
Moreover, the diverse and vibrant array of flowers will enchant visitors at the traditional Floria Kroměříž – Summer exhibition, set for August 8 to 10, 2025. Attendees can expect a wonderfully rich program at the Kromeriz Exhibition Centre, including a Summer Horticultural Market offering an extensive selection of flowers, plants, seeds, gardening supplies, and hobbies. There will also be an exhibition featuring small animals, ornamental birds, as well as cacti, succulents, and balcony plants.
