June 6 is recognized and celebrated globally as the International Day of Caves and the Underground World. This special day takes place every year to promote awareness about the underground world, highlight its significance, and emphasize the need for its protection. The initiative was started by the International Association of Accessible Caves (ISCA).
In the Czech Republic, there are currently 2,575 registered karst caves formed in limestone. Out of these, 14 have been modified and equipped with electricity for regular tourist visits, managed by the Administration of Caves of the Czech Republic.

The Cave Administration of the Czech Republic was founded in 2006 as an organization supported by the state under the Ministry of the Environment. It oversees 14 publicly accessible caves.
In the Moravian Karst, you will find the well-known Punkva Caves, famous for the abyss Macocha and the opportunity to take a boat trip on the submerged river, as well as the beautifully decorated Balcarka cave, and the Katherine cave, which has the largest accessible underground dome in the country. The Sloupsko-Sošov Caves offer the longest tour route. In Bohemia, you can explore the Bozkov dolomite caves, which feature the largest underground lake in the region, and the Koněprus caves that hold remnants of a medieval coin minting workshop. In the Přerov region, the hydrothermal Zbrašov aragonite caves near the “bottomless” Hranice Abyss are a major draw for visitors.
