This Weekend: Get Ready for Prague Mayor’s Rowing Races

PrimátorkyOn Friday, June 6, and during the weekend of June 7-8, 2025, the Vltava River in Prague will host the exciting Mayors rowing events. This competition will feature rowers of all ages and skill levels from across the Czech Republic and beyond. Join us at Rašín’s Embankment to cheer on the rowers and take part in a variety of exciting activities! On Friday, we will kick off with the University Eights, and the thrilling races will reach their peak on Sunday at noon with the eight men’s race. Athletes will compete in elite men’s and women’s eights, as well as youth, junior, and Masters categories, featuring both university athletes and top Czech competitors.

This year’s event will honor Skippers. Attendees can look forward to the inspiring story of Josef Straka, which connects generations. The organizers will also highlight contemporary figures in the sport. One of the world’s top rowers, Ondřej Synek, will be featured, and you can expect to see him in a special crew with an extraordinary lineup. The skippers will compete on Saturday and Sunday, with the women’s final starting at 10:50 am and the men’s final at 11:30 am on Sunday.

Mayors guarantee an engaging program

Mayors rowing boatAs usual, competitors will start their races at the Rowing Island and shortly after, they will tackle the Vyšehrad turn. The challenge of rowing under the Vyšehrad rock is one of the most iconic aspects of The Mayor. Traditionally, well-known clubs will vie for the Primátorky title. In both the men’s and women’s main events, athletes from the elite ASC Dukla Praha and PSK Olymp will compete fiercely. Expect to see talented crews from Slavie Praha close behind in both categories. Additionally, the women’s race may see fierce competition from teams representing Blesk Praha and Hamru. Competitors from Charles University will aim to defend the title they claimed last year. For the first time this year, there will also be a special event called the Town Hall Eights featuring representatives from Prague’s municipal districts, with crews from Prague 2 and Prague 4 participating.

MayorsWhere can you watch the races? You can view the rowing events from both sides of the Vltava River. However, due to the curve beneath Vyšehrad, only some areas give a full view of the two-kilometer course. For an exceptional “bird’s eye” perspective of the entire route, along with stunning views of the Vltava River and Prague Castle, head to the Vyšehrad Walls or viewing points in Kavčí hory Park (located above the Podolí swimming pool). A fantastic view at the race’s conclusion can be enjoyed from the Palacky Bridge or from the Smichov embankment below the Hořejší embankment. Enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Historic Gig Eights, racing on Sunday, June 2, starting at 10:25 am. The grand finals for the elite women will commence at 11:20 am, while the men’s final will kick off at noon, under the sponsorship of CEZ Group.
