Discover the Captivating Carnivores of Troja’s Botanical Garden

CarnivoresCarnivorous plants are intriguing because, alongside photosynthesis, they gain nutrients from tiny animals, mainly insects. These plants typically thrive in places where nutrients are hard to find. To sustain themselves, they develop unique methods – catching and digesting animal food utilizing various types of traps. The exhibition, titled Carnivores, explores bogs after tropical montane mist forests . Visitors will see subtle bubbleworts, sundews, and a Mexican variety known as penguins, in addition to unusual lacewings and heliamphoras.

CarnivoreThe main section of the exhibition can be found in the exhibition hall at the Ornamental Garden. Here, through informative panels filled with illustrations and interactive features, guests will explore the captivating life of carnivorous plants and learn how they capture and digest their meals. It will also be possible to discover these plants in the permanent exhibits at the Fata Morgana Greenhouse or within the peat bog in the Upper Garden. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the sale of (among other things) carnivorous plants near the exhibition hall. Succulents, bonsai, and other fascinating species will also be offered. Experts will be available to provide tips on how to cultivate them successfully.

Carnivorous food festival

CarnivoreThe exhibition is complemented by an event – the Carnivorous Food Festival, which will occur over the weekend 21 and 22 June. This fun-filled program will merge the realms of carnivorous plants and food. Attendees can take part in tastings of both traditional and non-traditional specialties that will surely please both carnivores and gourmet food lovers with a taste for new experiences. Various musical performances will enhance the festival’s lively atmosphere. On Sunday, the star performer will be František Nedvěd Jr.. Also, look forward to a special culinary show. The event will provide engaging workshops for people of all ages, including activities like creating your own florarium or sandblasting images onto paper featuring carnivorous plants.
