Šumava Špičák Kicks Off an Exciting Summer Season with a New Family-Friendly Route

Šumava Špičák begins its summer operations every day starting Saturday, June 14, 2025. The cable car that takes visitors to the top of Špičák will be open, along with the lookout tower from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Bikers can look forward to a bike school, bicycle rentals, and bike maintenance services. Every guest will also find the restaurant U Lanovky, the mountain pub in Blaženka hut, and a stall at the top of Špičák welcoming them.
On Saturdays, the daily visits will get more exciting starting at 3:00 p.m. with inflatable airbag bicycle jumping competitions. Additionally, three punk rock bands will perform starting at 6:00 p.m. During the second weekend of June, nature trails including Hare’s and Datlik’s, which lead from the top of Špičák to the glacial lakes – Černá and Čertovo – will already be open.
A new trail created for families with children
A brand-new fun trail, also known as a singletrack, has just recently been completed, and you can check it out starting Saturday, June 14, 2025. This trail goes from the lookout tower at the top of Špičák down to the cable car and is under 4 km in length. This area has been missing an easier (blue) track for Ski&Bike Špičák for quite some time, which is suitable for children under ten.
Thanks to this addition, the Šumava area has extended its bike park to include trails that cater to all levels of bikers – just like their slopes: from Blue to red and black. Now, the popular mountain in Šumava can be enjoyed by professional bikers, intermediate enthusiasts, families with kids, and beginners just starting in mountain biking. The local bike school’s methodologies cater to the various skill levels of the different trails. The instructors are dedicated to helping beginners, including children as young as 8, or anyone looking to enhance their mountain biking skills.
Summer competitions and fun activities for visitors
In early July, Bikepark Špičák will host international competitions in downhill mountain biking as part of the “EP downhill cup“. Several hundred bikers from the Czech Republic and other countries are expected to take part. Later, in September, the popular Czech Cup in cycling endurance will also take place. Currently, Ski&Bike Špičák offers more than 10 kilometers of trails within the bike park. Last year, they opened a trail that leads to the top of Špičák through Rozvodí, known as Uphill Špičák 1202. This has become a popular option, as more and more cyclists are keen to try climbing up the mountains. You don’t need a special bike for this; a regular mountain bike will suffice.
We also recommend checking out the lookout tower, which stands at 26.5 meters tall and provides stunning views in all directions. There are also various leisure activities available, including several hiking and nature trails that pass through the area, or tubbing for kids, which involves riding on inflatable tubes. All the refreshment spots will be open daily, including the kiosk by the lookout tower, Restaurant U Lanovky, and the mountain pub in Blaženka hut. Of course, there’s also a rental service for various equipment, especially bikes—ranging from specialized downhill bikes, classic mountain bikes, to electric bikes, all with the necessary gear and bike service.
