Mattoni Running Festival Draws Runners from Germany and Austria to Český Krumlov

Czechia as a Destination for Active Recreation

To boost international participation, the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism launched a campaign on social media aimed at the German-speaking sports community. This initiative encourages fans and runners from neighboring countries to visit Czechia.“Running festivals like this are a great opportunity to showcase Czechia in a new light. Not just as a country of monuments, beautiful nature, excellent food, and beer, but also as a country that thrives on sport and offers authentic experiences. Sports events attract active travelers who seek not just performance but also shared joy with friends and family,” says Markéta Valenta, Director of the CzechTourism Foreign Representation for Austria and Switzerland. She adds: “Together with RunCzech, we see great potential in our collaboration and definitely plan to continue it.”

Positive Feedback from Abroad

The event’s success and Czechia’s prowess in sports were affirmed by competitor Brigita Kraus, who traveled from Vienna to Budweis. She shared her excitement:

“The race had a fantastic atmosphere. I really enjoyed the section around the 10th kilometer, where I could see the fastest runners on the long straight ahead – it was a motivating moment for me. I also loved that the course around kilometer 6 passed through the square where most of the fans were cheering. That gave me a lot of energy!”

A Program for Everyone

The Mattoni Running Festival catered to a diverse range of participants. It was a hit among elite athletes, recreational runners, families with children, and those running for the very first time. In addition to the main half marathon, participants could join the Vodafone 5 km Run, while the youngest runners were encouraged by the DM Family Run.

Next Stop: Olomouc

The next event in the RunCzech series is set for Olomouc, a university town known for its unique atmosphere. The Mattoni 1/2Marathon here blends sport with stunning historical scenery, offering an unforgettable experience for all. CzechTourism maximized the opportunity by providing on-site support and inviting influencers from Czechia and Germany to share the event’s vibe with their followers. The goal was to highlight what Czechia has to offer both runners and tourists, both on and off the track.

From Olomouc to Ústí nad Labem

After Olomouc, the RunCzech series will move to Ústí nad Labem. The race will take place on September 20, 2025, promising another blend of sport and an engaging atmosphere. CzechTourism also plans a social media campaign that will include a competition for entry fees and accommodations.
