Zubrnice Kicks Off Exciting Summer Revival Weekends
Explore the fun and games of children from the early 20th century, highlighting how they enjoyed their leisure time after completing their tasks, both at home and away. How did they manage to have fun without the modern luxuries we have today? What kind of games did they invent, and what were their rules? Do you know about activities like chamrdy, how to play hammered the starling, or the spade game? Do you know what feather darts looked like, how to launch a comet, what items were thrown, and the right way to chirp clay marbles? Not just kids, but adults could also enjoy themselves with games like beating the pot and “blind bimbo.” All you need to take with you is a cheerful attitude and comfortable shoes. The journey into the past of games and enjoyment will happen at the Zubrnice open-air museum, regardless of the weather, and you can also join a regular guided tour.
Visitors at the Zubrnice Nature Museum can look forward to exciting events throughout the summer, lasting until September, featuring demonstrations of activities as they were performed in days gone by. On Saturday, July 19th, there will be an event to honor St. Mary Magdalene, the church’s patron saint in Zubrnice. Expect a pilgrimage procession and a chance to take a barefoot walk in the Mill Valley. In August, the focus will be on laundry and preparing wood for winter. The last Saturday of the holiday season features an event called “Paint Your Holiday.” This year, the Zubrnice Open Air Museum will also take part in the European Heritage Days. On the first two Saturdays of September, activities will include working with hops or picking potatoes, depending on the weather, and on September 20, cabbage will be trodden just like in the past. To wrap it all up, on September 27th, you can experience the art of spinning on the spinning wheel.
