Join the Rhythm of Ratha-Yatra: Experience India’s Vibrant Festival in Prague

Get ready for the upcoming edition of the Indian Ratha-Yatra Car Festival in Prague. This lively parade, featuring a beautifully decorated float, will take place in the Old Town and will be followed by a diverse program at the Square of the Republic. Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 29, 2025. It’s all free! The Ratha-Yatra festival is more than just a vibrant display of Indian culture. It originates from the city of Puri in India, where people have celebrated it for thousands of years to honor the journey of Lord Krishna to the temple. A big part of this festival is the chariot—a tall, splendid vehicle adorned with flowers, meant for carrying the deities. The parade will wind its way through the historic city center—starting on Celetna Street, moving to Old Town Square, continuing through the Fruit Market and Na Příkopě Street, then heading to Wenceslas Square, before finally returning to Republic Square.

In the afternoon, the celebration will return to Namesti Republiky Square, where there will be a varied cultural program featuring Indian music, mantra chanting, and entertaining projections. Attendees can also look forward to the beloved Indian classical dance form called Bharatanatyam. Throughout the afternoon on Sunday, the festival area will be buzzing with life. Be sure to explore stalls offering Indian fashion and handicrafts, delicious Indian food, and fresh organic products from farms like Kršnů Dvůr.
