Prokopská Pilgrimage in Příbram Honors Miners’ Legacy
This weekend, on July 5 and 6, Březové Hory will host the Prokopská pilgrimage for the 36th consecutive year. Exciting events are planned, including traditional squatting parades and a Mining parade. Additionally, there will be activities at locations such as J. A. Alis Square, the Mining Museum, and Marie Mine.
This year’s Prokop Pilgrimage has a full schedule set for Saturday and Sunday. At both the J.A. Alise area and down at Marie, attendees can enjoy stalls, interactive workshops, carnival rides, parades, and musical performances on two different stages. The Saturday program, titled Březohorská festival, will begin at 2:00 PM at J. A. Alice Square. Various local groups and bands such as Kamýček, Příbramské Rebels, Aerobik PB, Jan Hasman, Duellanti z.s., Bacha Baby, Sokol B.H., and SDH Březové Hory will take turns performing on stage. The square will also host music by bands like Schunky, Roofers, One Taste, and Malibu. A notable change this year is that the Saturday parade, referred to as tapping, will now start from 17. listopadu Square instead of T. G. Masaryk Square. The parade is set to commence at 9:00 PM, finishing at J. A. Alise Square.
Celebratory Sunday with a nominal admission fee
On Sunday, July 6, 2025, the traditional Prokopská pilgrimage will continue. Starting from 9:00 AM, visitors can enjoy a parade featuring miners and metal workers in ceremonial attire, which will begin at T. G. Masaryk Square and make its way to Prokop Church for a field mass. At 2:00 PM, the Ševčinský Mine in the courtyard of the Mining Museum Příbram will introduce historical sketches celebrating the 150th anniversary of the milestone achievement of reaching a depth of 1000 meters using a single mining rope at the Vojtěch mine back in 1875. The program will start with a fanfare from the Svatohorské trumpeters. Performances by the Tomáš Bílek Theatre and the Adorea Swordsmanship Society are also planned. Entrance to various exhibits at the museum, including access to underground areas, will be offered throughout the day for just 1 CZK. The museum will remain open from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM, allowing guests to explore different industrial buildings with fascinating exhibitions, experience underground tours, or even take a ride on mining trains.The largest and most renowned
The Prokopská pilgrimage is known as the largest and most famous mining pilgrimage in the Czech Republic, filled with cultural activities and costumed parades, historical performances, fun fairground games, and Old Bohemian markets. Its roots trace back to when miners in Příbram celebrated their patron saint, St. Prokop. This tradition was revived in 1990, and today, participants include miners and metal workers not just from the Czech Republic, but also representatives from partner mining towns and mining organizations from various European nations.
The organization of the Prokop Pilgrimage also brings about traffic restrictions. These restrictions will be in effect until Sunday, July 6 (until 10:00 PM) along nám. J. A. Alise, Mariánská, Prokopská, and K Dolo Marie streets. The recommended detour route will be via ul. Ke Korábu, Pahorková, and Kladenská. Příbram public transport lines include stops at “Příbram, Březové Hory, Domov seniorů”, “Příbram, Březové Hory, nám.”, and “Příbram, Březové Hory, Mariánská”.
