Savor Summer Aboard the Ship Horácko!
From the boat deck, the view of the Dalešická Dam is truly stunning. On the boat Horácko, you can bring your bicycles along; it can carry up to 20 bicycles without any issues, and in some cases, you may be able to transport more bikes depending on available space. The boat makes stops at Kramolín, Dalešice, Wilsonka campsite, Třesov, and Koněšín. Please note that swimwear is not permitted on the boat, and the staff requests that passengers wear clothing on their upper bodies. You can purchase tickets right on the boat, but only in cash. In June, the boat operates only on weekends, while in July and August, it sails every day. Tickets can only be purchased in cash. The cost for a cruise around the entire dam (not including Haliřka) with both boarding and disembarking at the same dock is 320 CZK, although you can also choose to sail to individual stops at their respective prices.
The boat can easily carry 20 bicycles. You can board with bikes at all stops, but keep in mind that boarding involves a staircase on a slope (for example, at Dalešice, it can be quite steep). Before boarding, make sure to remove all luggage, bottles, and computers from your bicycles, as these could get damaged or lost during handling. A fee of 70 CZK is charged for handling a stripped bike, while an electric bike incurs a fee of 150 CZK (or 130/210 CZK for a bike that has not been stripped). The captain of the boat has the final say on whether bikes can be transported, particularly if there’s limited space, if the bike is unprepared, dirty, etc. On the bicycle, you can only have panniers under the saddle or attached to the frame! From June 28 to August 24, 2025, the boat departs daily at 10:00, 13:00, and 15:30. Please remember that payment is only accepted in cash. A cruise around the whole dam without Haliřka costs 380 CZK (discounted tickets are 230 CZK), while a cruise that includes Haliřka costs 450 CZK and 300 CZK.
Explore the dam’s beauty on a scenic cruise
The Dalešice Dam was constructed from 1971 to 1979 on the middle stretch of the Jihlava River. It consists of two reservoirs: the main Dalešice reservoir and the Mohelno reservoir for balancing water levels. The construction aimed to support a pumping hydropower station and provide water supply for the Dukovany nuclear power station. Other critical reasons for building the dam included supplying water for irrigating farmland, providing industrial water, protecting against floods, and, of course, enhancing tourism and recreation. The dam covers a considerable area of one thousand square kilometers, with a flooded area of 480 and 118 hectares, and has a dyke that runs for three hundred meters.
Above the Dalešická Dam, there are steep slopes. Tucked away here are the ruins of medieval castles known as Kozlov and Holoubek. From the Kozlov ruins, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the dam’s curves and the lush surrounding forests. The region around the dam is home to many endangered species. You can spot storks, herons, swans, eagles, wild ducks, and many others. The dam is also a favorite spot for fishing enthusiasts.
