Exciting Adventures and Animal Encounters
Every day , you have the chance to watch guided animal feedings at Děčín Zoo. Each day, you can peek into the animal kitchen—at least in a metaphorical sense. Guided feeding sessions for specially selected animal species happen at specific times and locations. You’ll get to learn what types of food the animals prefer, why some get special diets, and even find out which animal is the biggest eater. The first guided feeding starts at 10:30 near the kangaroos, reaching its peak at 15:00 when the beloved Kamchatka bears are fed, and wraps up at 16:00 for the equally adored kapybaras.
On Tuesdays at Zoo Děčín, the spotlight is on falconry demonstrations. From 12:00 to 17:00 every Tuesday, falconer Martina Hendrichová from the Rozárka association showcases her collection of owls and birds of prey at a station near the forest amphitheatre. Additionally, at 15:30, she puts on stunning flight demonstrations that are truly captivating!
Every Thursday , the zoo’s forest amphitheatre transforms into a magical setting where fairy tales come alive. Under the cool shade of the trees, you can be whisked away to a world full of magic, animal friends, and exciting adventures. Each week features a different fairy tale, ensuring a new delight every time! Fairytale Thursdays begin promptly at 3:30 pm.
A popular summer attraction is the evening tours. The zoo organizes different types of these tours. There are options for children, larger guests, and also special tours for adults. Come see what happens with the animals once the zoo closes for the day. As the sun sets, many animals become more lively, leading to plenty of exciting discoveries, complete with engaging commentary from knowledgeable staff. A special highlight is the Tour 18+, designed for adults only, offering a humorous and honest look into the “intimate” lives of various animals. You can expect discussions that are open-minded and tasteful about topics like love, reproduction, and animal relationships in all their wild diversity.
Suburban camp and Paradise Islands
During the summer, Zoo Děčín also hosts an unforgettable suburban camp. This year, 60 lucky children get to spend their holidays as little caregivers! They will have the unique opportunity to work behind the scenes, taking care of the animals, learning about their needs, and engaging in a variety of adventurous activities while playing fun campus games. This suburban camp is very popular and tends to sell out several months in advance.
Don’t forget to visit Paradise Islands! Paradise Islands is a unique exhibit located about 700 meters from the zoo in the city center. Here, visitors can explore the diverse worlds of animals found not just underwater, but also in the jungle, along mangrove coasts, and in semi-desert environments. This amazing exhibit is a bonus for zoo-goers, as admittance is completely free with a zoo ticket.
How to get to Zoo Decin
Zoo Děčín offers its own parking lot, but be aware that space is limited. Therefore, we recommend you arrive early, especially during weekends and holidays. The daily parking fee is 50 CZK. If you prefer to arrive by bus, you can take a completely free service that drops you right at the zoo entrance. Just leave your car in town and hop on bus line no. 216, known as the bear bus, which has a bear image on it for easy identification. You can park for free at locations like the Tesco parking lot, where you will also find the bus stop.
If you feel like taking a pleasant walk, you can follow the “bear walk” to the zoo along the ZooStezkou. This path starts at the viaduct at Mototechna and is dotted with fun challenges to engage with along the way. You’ll barely notice any uphill stretches, making the journey enjoyable and quick! The trail is about 600 meters long, although it may not be stroller-friendly. Keep an eye out for the marked red tourist sign.
