Festivities of Czech and Slovak Unity to Unfold at the Summit of the White Carpathians

The majestic hill The White Carpathian Mountains – Velká Javorina (Javořina) is an excellent location for both tourists and locals to enjoy a scenic walk with lovely views of the Czech and Slovak border region. On the last Sunday of July, the number of visitors to Javořina notably increases. Every year, this day celebrates the Celebration of the Brotherhood of Czechs and Slovaks, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. This year, the celebration will occur over the weekend, from Saturday to Sunday. On Saturday, July 26, a bike race called the Javorina Tour will be held. The main program featuring a variety of music will happen on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
The yearly gathering is a chance to reflect on the shared history of two closely connected nations. It also honors the Memorial to Czech-Moravian-Slovak Reciprocity, representing the enduring bonds between people despite ongoing and future changes in Europe. The festivities will start at 9:00 at Holuby’s cottage, after which a parade will lead to the Memorial at the top of Javorina, where flowers will be laid by guests and organizers. Attendees can expect a vibrant cultural program focused on reciprocity, celebrating the best cultural offerings from both sides of the border, especially featuring folklore and music from the Moravian-Slovak area. Cultural performances will begin at 9:00 on the main stage and at 10:00 on the smaller stage. How to get to Velká Javořina?
Each year, special public transport services are arranged for those attending the celebrations. Buses heading to Velká Javořina depart from stops in Újezdec, Uherské Hradiště, and nearby Veselí nad Moravou station.
For hikers, the easiest approach is by taking the exit from the parking lot at Kamenná bouda (located near Strání). This route can be accessed by turning onto a road at the highest point of I/54 that leads from Slavkov to Strání. A red-marked trail (The Way of the SNP Heroes) branches off from U kamenné boudy crossroads.
You can reach the summit of Velká Javořina with a hike of less than 5 km. Along the way, you won’t find a water fountain, but just 500 meters to the east of Velká Javořina’s peak is Holuby’s hut, where you can get refreshments and accommodations. This hut is situated in Slovakia, so it’s wise to carry euro notes, as credit cards might not work. The hut was originally built as early as 1923 by the Czechoslovak Tourist Club members from Uherský Brod.
