Uncovering the Wonders of Slavic Settlements: Explore Archeoskanzen Modrá

Archaeoskanzen in Modrá is organized into distinct functional units and complexes that connect smoothly with one another. The first area you encounter is Fortifications, which is mainly found at the entrance to the open-air museum, creating a surrounding fence. Within this area are the estate grounds that focus on economic activities right next to the power area. Behind them, separated by a wooden fence, is the spiritual and educational zone. The open-air museum also features the craft area, a space for experimentation, an archery training site, and an animal enclosure.
The archaeological museum in Modrá showcases the perfect example of a Slavic fortified settlement known as a hillfort, which served as a power center during the Great Moravia (9th century). The buildings here have sections buried below ground, which can be found in actual archaeological sites. The structures above ground are designed to resemble probable buildings, which are based on real archaeological discoveries. The visitor path includes a standalone church complex with a replica church and features the National Cultural Monument of the Czech Republic—the Remains of the Church of St. John from the early 9th century.
Close to the archeoskanzen, there is an exhibition called Living Water focusing on freshwater fish, a wildlife preserve with grasslands, the Treasury of Moravia, a Centre of History and Traditions, and the nearby pilgrimage site of Velehrad. You’ll need more than just one day to fully explore everything!
