Experience Exciting Summer Tours at Hluboká Castle

Hluboká Castle is often called a piece of Windsor England located in southern Bohemia. This impressive structure took its current shape in the 19th century when it was renovated in a neo-Gothic style. As part of the castle’s romantic transformation, the Schwarzenberg family created a beautiful landscape park in the mid-19th century.
This castle has 140 rooms and 11 towers and provides various tour options: the basic Representative Rooms tour, as well as tours of the Private Suites, Kitchen, Guest Rooms, and Tower. Additionally, in the summertime, the castle management arranges popular special tours.
For children, a fantastic option is the Guided Tours with the Princess, which occur throughout the summer. During these tours, Princess Eleonora leads younger visitors through the main rooms on the first floor of Hluboká Castle. The tour includes stops in places like the Princess’s bedroom and dressing room, a large dining area, and a morning salon. The content is simplified and tailored for younger school-age children. This tour is designed for kids between 5 and 10 years old. Since the group size is limited to 20, we kindly request that only one adult accompany the children. Unaccompanied children may also participate, with an arrangement for adult pickup after the tour.
Castle tours
Adults have a unique opportunity to join a tour led by a notable figure, the former Minister of Culture, Mr. Daniel Herman. His involvement is special since he spent time at the castle as a student during the early 1980s. Therefore, it can be expected that he will share personal stories from his student experiences at Hluboká Castle.
The tours will occur on Saturdays, specifically on April 19, May 25, June 21, July 13, 2025, at 1:40 PM and 3:10 PM, as well as on August 10, 2025, at 1:50 PM and 3:10 PM. Reservations can be made through phone (387 843 911) or email ([email protected]). The ticket prices are the same as those for regular introductory tours, and each group is capped at 25 participants.
A walk through the park and garden of Hluboká Castle
Besides the castle, visitors can stroll through the lovely castle park with a nature trail. This park was developed while the Schwarzenbergs transformed their Baroque residence into a romantic neo-Gothic castle, specifically between 1840 and 1871. Princess Eleonora played a crucial role in promoting the establishment of a magnificent park and even oversaw its development. Today, the park is still interwoven with a variety of walking paths that meander naturally through the scenery, showcasing local trees and grassy areas adorned with individual trees. One favored spot in the park is a viewpoint overlooking the vast Munický Pond and the hunting lodge Ohrada. However, trees can somewhat obstruct the view. The Hluboká Chateau Park spans 90 hectares and features several ponds. The nature trail, which is 2.5 km long, is easy to navigate and suitable for families with prams.
Surrounding the castle are beautifully landscaped grounds known as the Lower garden, which are well-kept. Among the greenery, there is a circular pool with a fountain, a nod to the famous fairy tale where the beautiful Princess Charming fell. In front of the castle’s southern side, adorned with a two-story cast-iron balcony, used to sit an orangery (now a ceremonial hall). Among the remarkable residents of this garden are rare exotic trees, including the lily tree, male and female yin trees, moss-leaved oak, horse chestnut, plane tree, naked tree, hickory, and walnut; and conifers such as two-coloured spruce, giant hickory, and hemlock. Among the native species are the impressive elm and the large, ancient yew. From the observation terrace, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the landscape park that encompasses the Podskalská and Poříčská meadows. Beyond the town of České Budějovice, the view extends to the distant Blanský Forest range, topped by the striking Mount Klet’.
