Experience the Shift from July to August in Broumov: Join the Beloved Summer Mountain Courses

One of the biggest events in Europe will provide a diverse schedule for participants throughout the week-long program. This includes personalized and intimate lessons for attendees, along with concerts held on the grounds of the Broumov Monastery as part of the festival called For the Treasures of Broumov Region. A piece titled Halali, composed this year for the Summer Horn Courses by the festival’s resident composer Miloš Orsoň Štědroň, will be showcased during a concert on Wednesday, July 30 at 6 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Vernéřovice.

The Summer horn courses have established themselves as a significant and well-loved event across Europe over the past nine years. Recently, the program has seen an increase in international participation. The courses take place for an entire week at the Broumov Monastery, a site designated as a national cultural monument. Attendees can expect not only personalized lessons but also chamber music sessions and masterclasses taught by international instructors. Additionally, there will be an exhibition featuring horns from Amati Kraslice, Brass Studio Prague Arnold Kinkal, Hans Hoyer Horn, and Clarina Music, as well as on-site repair and customization of horns. Non-musical activities are also arranged, such as tours of the Bošina Biofarm, yoga classes specifically designed for musicians, or explorations of the monastery grounds.

Instructors for the course include the founder and supervisor of the courses Zuzana Rzounková, who is the solo horn player for the Prague Symphony Orchestra and a teacher at JAMU; Yi Man, a professor of horn at the Beijing Conservatory of Music (known for conducting well-regarded masterclasses worldwide); Stefan de Leval Jezierski, the first American musician in the Berlin Philharmonic; solo horn player for the Czech Philharmonic Jan Vobořil; the vice-dean of JAMU Brno, professor Jindřich Petráš; first horn player of the Prague Symphony Martin Sokol; teacher at the ZUŠ in Polička and Broumov Lenka Němcová; and professor at the Prague Conservatory and head of the horn section for the Prague Symphony Orchestra Petr Hernych. Accompaniment on the piano will be provided by pianists Jana Goliášová, Kamila Kolářová, and Mio Sakamoto.
