Rev Up Your Summer: Explore the Thrills of Steam and Motorbikes
The heart of all the excitement is Station in Bezdružice, where various music, theatre, and dance groups will showcase their talents all day long. People of all ages can also take a ride on a pedal inspector’s train or check out the exhibit that tells the story of the railway in West Bohemia, displayed in a railway carriage. Additionally, there will be a small model railway to enjoy. The successful event Bezdružické steam summer will be overseen by First Republic gendarmes. Inside the station’s waiting area, you’ll find a presentation about railway signaling equipment hosted by the Chornice Railway Club, where you can even try your hand at being a dispatcher.
The end station romantic locomotives from Pňovany u Plzně is the spot where the beloved events of Bezdružice Steam Summer take place. Enjoy a scenic ride on a century-old local train through the region associated with Krystof Harant, on a track free from loud noise barriers, and with an engine that still allows windows to be opened. This special train consists of historic two-axle “wooden” cars pulled by a steam locomotive (though for technical reasons, the steam locomotive may occasionally be swapped for a historic diesel locomotive). The train makes its rounds on Saturdays and Sundays between Bezdružice and Kokašice stations. At the turnaround station, a cultural program is planned to entertain passengers while the locomotive moves to the other end of the train. This year, the popular Švejk Band led by Milan Benedikt Karpíšek will perform, along with dancers and the mentioned gendarmerie search station.
Steam train departures from Bezdružice heading towards Kokašice on Saturday and Sunday will be at 10:35, 12:35, 14:35, and 16:35. The round trip lasts one hour. Tickets can only be purchased on the train, and standard fares from ČD or IDPK do not apply. The basic return fare is 200 CZK, while children aged 6 to 15 can get tickets for 100 CZK. Kids under 1 meter in height can ride for free (without a seat).
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, the 25th annual march will be held to support completing the line between Bezdružice and Teplá. Participants can start at 9:15 and 10:00 from the Teplá railway station, and transportation by historical bus will be available for walkers.
Experiences at Bezdružice railway station
At the Bezdružice railway station, a rich cultural program is ready for all visitors: you can try your hand at human-powered dressage, there will also be a gendarmerie search station and an exhibition by Mr. Simbartl showcasing the history of the railroad in West Bohemia, located inside a railway carriage. In the station’s waiting area, you’ll find an exhibit about railway signaling equipment from the Chornice Railway Club, where you can even give being a train dispatcher a try. The well-loved Bezdružice Railway Museum will also open its doors, offering visitors the chance to purchase stamps, commemorative magnets, tourist stamps, postcards, and a memory game. There will be an opportunity to tour a model railway set up by a model railroading club. Kids can participate in workshops, while adults can enjoy performances from the Chevy Band led by Milan Benedikt Karpíšek. On Saturday, starting at 19:00, guests can relax with draft beer and grilled treats.
