Discover the Global Charm of Czech Glass Art and Craftsmanship!

Czech Glass in Hotels

Glass, architecture, and design harmoniously complement each other. A striking illustration of this combination can be found in the recently reopened iconic Brutalist structure located in the historic heart of Prague, right at the end of the esteemed Pařížská Street – the former InterContinental Hotel.
Now known as the Fairmont Golden Prague Hotel, this establishment not only boasts stunning crystal chandeliers crafted by René Roubíček but is also home to monumental glass art pieces from the globally acclaimed company Lasvit. Guests can indulge in exquisite artistic and functional glass pieces in the hotel bar and wellness area. For aficionados of glass artistry, the unique glass tapestries on display are a must-see. Additionally, the hotel features remarkable chandeliers from renowned Czech brands Bomma and Preciosa.

Glass Handbags and a Secret Bar

A contemporary perspective on glass, infused with a distinctly romantic flair, can be found at the Almanac X Alcron Prague Hotel, conveniently situated near Wenceslas Square. This limited collection, designed by Linda Procházka, who has also collaborated with the world-renowned Czech glassmaker Lasvit in London, features hand-blown wine glasses adorned with charming bows alongside original glass handbags that are quickly capturing the hearts of collectors and design enthusiasts alike.

Statues in American Movies

Glass sculptures created by Jiří Pačinek played a significant role in the American black comedy “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” featuring talents like Daniel Craig and Edward Norton. Moreover, a grand spatial sculpture by Lasvit is admired by spectators from the Americas to Australia. Preciosa, steeped in a tradition dating back 300 years, is known for crafting beautiful crystal chandeliers once sought after by the kings of France.

If you’re passionate about this exquisite craft, mark your calendar for the sales exhibition of Czech costume jewelry and glass companies from August 7 to 10, 2025 at the Eurocentre in Jablonec nad Nisou, situated in picturesque North Bohemia. While you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to see a massive cut-glass crystal, an extension of the Museum of Glass and Jewellery.

The most significant glass event attracting enthusiasts from afar is Crystal Valley Week 2025. This vibrant summer showcase highlighting glass, jewelry, and bijouterie from across the Crystal Valley—home to the leading glassmaking firms in Czechia—will illuminate Liberec from August 26 to 30, 2025. Attendees can anticipate a multitude of enthralling exhibitions, outdoor installations, live demonstrations of glass and jewelry crafting, fashion shows, a crystal market, and captivating performances by master glassmakers as well as skilled students. The nearby birthplace of Ferdinand Porsche will also host an exhibition celebrating legends of motorsport.

Glass garden: PAČINEK GLASS in Kunratice u Cvikova opens its smelter, glassworks, and showroom to visitors. Surrounded by an exquisite glass garden and featuring a remarkable installation inside the nearby Glass Temple, it’s an experience that you truly shouldn’t pass up.

In 2024, a prominent glass manufacturer from Czechia celebrates an impressive 300-year legacy of producing crystal chandeliers: Preciosa, whose uninterrupted glassmaking tradition in the Crystal Valley of the Liberec Region began back in 1548. The stunning Czech chandeliers from Preciosa have adorned prestigious venues including the royal palaces at Versailles and Fontainebleau, along with the abodes of the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire and Russian tsars. Centuries later, in December 2023, the artistry of Czech glassmakers found recognition as it was inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Another fascinating destination, situated on the other side of the country in the southern region of Czechia, features a unique all-glass altar that towers over 3 meters and weighs 5 tons, located in the Church of St. Gunther in Dobrá Voda, near Hartmanice. The selection of glass colors was intentional—the dark yellow to green hues reflect the colors of the rivers of Šumava and the region’s streams during the spring thaw. This church holds the distinction of being the only one in the world dedicated to St. Gunther. Šumava had a rich glassmaking heritage, which continues today in the Annín glassworks.

Futuristic Sculptures

Prague and its surroundings also offer multiple opportunities to witness exceptional glassmakers and their art. The workshop of Martin Janecký, arguably the most prominent figure in contemporary glassmaking, is nestled in the garden of the Order of the Knights of Malta in Kampa, right in the heart of Prague. Janecký employs a distinctive technique to create his sculptures, shaping them from within a hot glass flask. Experiencing this process live is undoubtedly one of life’s great highlights.

Another innovative glassmaker is František Jungvirt, whose creations are displayed in the Four Seasons luxury hotel in Prague, as well as in showrooms across Europe and beyond. His personal boutique can be located within the PARVI Cibulka residential complex in Prague. Jungvirt also served as the artistic director of the Klimchi brand, renowned for its hobnail glass, often referred to as pineapple glass; this style is especially loved in the UK and will be particularly familiar to fans of the blockbuster “Barbie.”

In this central area of Prague, don’t miss the showroom of the esteemed glass brand KLIMCHI, located within the W Prague Hotel, which was formerly known as the Grand Hotel Evropa.

A Cut-Glass Tradition in the Spa

One traditional company that embraces new trends is Rückl, renowned for its exquisite cut crystal. Located in the village of Nižbor near Beroun, just under an hour’s drive from Prague, visitors are given the opportunity to blow their own pint glass or even engrave the motif of the Czech royal crown onto a glass piece. Access to outdoor areas is complimentary.
For those who cherish beauty, relaxation, and wellness, the world-famous Moser—producers of the most exquisite Czech crystal—distributes its stunning creations from Karlovy Vary in West Bohemia. Observing the masters work with molten glass is an experience that you will treasure forever. Like Moser, the other brands and artists mentioned will also participate in the upcoming festival, Designblok 2025.

If you seek something truly extraordinary, make your way to the opulent Grandhotel Pupp in the spa town of Karlovy Vary. There, you’ll find an elegant secret Splendid Bar, inspired by the Bond film Casino Royale, which was partially filmed at the hotel. Their signature cocktails are served in a lavish collection of Moser glassware, radiating an elegance that would impress even the iconic Agent 007.
