Recently, an unexpected gem has captured people’s attention: a mountain near Yichang, China. This cliff hovering over the Yangtze River strikingly resembles the head of a puppy. When a photo of this landscape was shared on social media, it received hundreds of thousands of likes and went viral with millions of views within just a few days. Many eager hikers rushed to the trail, and dog owners jumped onto social media with pictures of their pets to see which dog looked the most like the rock formation.

Kokořínsko: Frog and stone mushrooms

Do you enjoy exploring Kokořínsko? If so, you should definitely check out the rock formations known as Giant Head and Frog, which are located just a short distance apart along the Cinibulka trail, at the intersection of the blue tourist trail leading from Pokličky to Mšeno. Nearby, you’ll also encounter the impressive Průsečná Rock, and Pokličky itself is a sight to behold. These sandstone columns look like mushrooms; the tallest one is rumored to be about twelve meters high and the cap measures around six meters wide.

Similarly, the Broumov Walls are rich with various uniquely shaped rock formations. A special sight is provided by the rock mushrooms, which are located not far from Slavný village. These mushrooms formed similarly to Pokličky, through uneven weathering of different sandstone layers. At Božanovský Špičák, the highest point of the Broumov Walls, a yellow sign marks the way. This area is filled with numerous fascinating formations, many of which hikers have given animal names. Thus, the rocks near the summit are often referred to as the Stone Zoo. Here, you might spot shapes resembling a cat, a raven, a turtle, a squirrel, or a camel.

Gorilla from the Jizera Mountains

Did you know that you can find a gorilla in the Jizera Mountains? It’s made of stone and is situated along the Oldřichovské háje a skály nature trail, not far from the summit of Kopřivník. This peculiar cluster of rock blocks truly resembles a gorilla’s head, which is similar to the different stacks of stones that form the nearby rock tower known as Snowman.

Elephant Square in Adršpach

Many rock formations in the scenic area of Adršpach have also been given names by hikers. Don’t miss out on Elephant Square! This enchanting circular square located right in the heart of the rock city is surrounded by giant stone elephants with extended trunks. It’s just as stunning as Elephant Rock, a world-renowned natural rock formation found on Heimaey Island in Iceland.

White elephants in the Lusatian Mountains

You can find more elephant-like formations in the Lusatian Mountains: the so-called White Stones near Rynoltice, also referred to as Elephant Rocks. They have this nickname because their light sandstone boulders look similar to a group of resting elephants in both color and shape. This fossilized herd of elephants can be spotted east-north of Jítrava, at the base of Vysoká Hill.

Lion from Miličín

Lions are among the most recognizable symbols and can be found in the national emblem of the Czech Republic. Accessible as a lookout point, this rock genuinely resembles a cat resting when viewed from a distance. Secret Bird Kiss in Příhrazské skály

The Příhrazské Rocks situated in the Bohemian Paradise also showcase countless beautiful spots and rock formations. Alongside the Cold Passage and the remnants of Hynšta castle, attractions like Falcon’s Mouth and the rock gate known as The Bird’s Kiss are worth visiting. This rock window genuinely appears as though two birds are touching their beaks. The South Bohemian pond Rožmberk also creates an illusion with its expansive body of water. Due to its size and open water surface, it remarkably resembles a small inland sea. This largest pond in the Czech Republic is extensive enough that you can observe the curvature of the earth’s surface on its surface.

Spaceship on Jested

The unique transmitter and hotel located at Ještěd has become a symbol of the Liberec Region and is regarded as one of the most iconic architectural masterpieces in the Czech Republic. Designed by architect Karel Hubáček, the building resembles a spaceship and is visible from several kilometers away on clear days.

Devil’s Ass, the Jewel of Czech Canada

Although the name might sound strange, this rock formation in Czech Canada truly does resemble what its name suggests. Devil’s Ass is simply unique and easily recognizable. It’s a sought-after destination for tourists, who frequently capture and share amusing photos of it on social media.
