Get Ready for an Unforgettable Vltava Boating Adventure! This Saturday: The Thrilling Devil’s Extreme Race

The traditional 19th edition of the open European Championships and European Cup Finals in extreme kayaking will feature top competitors from across Europe. In addition to this, an extremely challenging paddling route will host various other wild water races, such as the well-known local event Czech Cup of CEZ Group in slalom and Czech Championship for adults. This upcoming weekend, there will also be a race for the Czech Cup in classic canoeing downhill and the Czech Rafting Championship included in the IRF European Cup series.

The race will be held on the magnificent Devil Streams below the Lipno Dam, which is a one-of-a-kind boulder-laden riverbed of the Vltava River. This wild and picturesque area was shaped by erosion that broke apart parts of the Devil’s Wall, towering above the river. The riverbed itself is filled with large boulders and features unique erosion formations like the eroded “giant pots” in the boulders. While this area historically had a huge flow of water, nowadays, not much water runs through it since most of it is diverted through an underground canal from the Lipno reservoir via the “Lipno I” power plant to the balancing reservoir “Lipno II”. Additional water only flows through here during dam releases or when boating races occur.

Get ready for a one-of-a-kind showcase of the top riders on wild waters, not just from the Czech Republic. In previous years, renowned competitors like multiple world champion Sam Sutton and Olympic champion Alexander Grimm have raced here.

This adrenaline-pumping event is also combined with an annual exciting evening program, featuring live bands and DJs. In the camping area by the football field along the Vltava River in Loučovice, visitors can enjoy various attractions, a chill-out zone, and a wide selection of food and refreshing summer drinks. Amenities like tent accommodations, parking, sanitary facilities, and a basement are available in the festival park. The Devils Extreme Race and Festival draws together kayakers, thrill-seekers, music lovers, and entertainers from both the Czech Republic and around the globe every year.
