The Duke’s stay and his tragic demise in Cheb have been remembered by locals since the early 1900s. Today, the contemporary Wallenstein Festival stands out as one of the region’s beloved events.

It’s a Friday afternoon in the year 1627. The Duke of Frýdlant Albrecht Václav Eusebius of Wallenstein, a high-ranking imperial general, arrives in Cheb leading a procession, seeking soldiers for the imperial army. He sets up his military camp in a castle moat, and soon after, celebrations begin in his honor… This is how the lively Wallenstein festivities start, taking place in Cheb every two years.

This year, festival-goers can expect several exciting new features. On Saturday, there will be a theater performance at the castle, showcasing a reenactment of the murder of the last loyal members of Wallenstein’s entourage. This short play will be performed multiple times throughout the day at the very locations where the historical incident unfolded.

Cheb battleOn Saturday, there will also be a fantastic program in Krajinka, where a thrilling tournament featuring some of the best-trained Czech knights will take place. Additionally, visitors can explore an artisan fair and a medieval village showcasing traditional crafts.
