Discover Unique Prehistoric Technologies at Archeopark Pavlov

The last Saturday of August will feature an event focused on the earliest prehistoric techniques that brought fame to the mammoth hunters living underground. The workshop, titled “About the beginnings of textiles“, will explore our basic human need to shield and enhance our bodies. With guidance from instructors at the Centre of Traditional Technologies in Příbor, you will discover how the initial steps toward creating fabrics and clothing may have happened.

Participants can witness the Active presentation of garments made from nettle fiber inspired by the prehistoric era. You will appreciate that it’s possible not just to wear them but also to walk comfortably! There will also be a hands-on demonstration of how to process nettle fibers and linden bark using tools made from stone and bone, along with opportunities to learn fundamental threading techniques. The entire day will be set up as a space for open discussions —together we will explore, experiment, and seek to understand how one of humanity’s earliest inventions could have been developed: textiles. Admission to this event is included with your regular museum ticket. Please note, the schedule may vary, and not all activities may take place at the same time.

The Pavlov Archaeopark is situated close to a village of the same name and marks the site of a settlement from the Early Paleolithic age. It was recognized as a national cultural monument in 2010, and a contemporary exhibition has been established here. Asymmetrical white towers emerge from the ground, resembling the rocky landscape of the Pavlov Hills. The unique architectural style is complemented by the way the collections are arranged. In this place, you can observe not only settlements that date back 25 to 27 thousand years, but also artistic creations and tools. Within the exhibition space, there is a layer of animal bones that remain from the mammoth hunters (in situ).
