The Prague Castle is showcasing the Czech Crown Jewels. This special exhibition will take place in the Vladislav Hall of the Old Royal Palace from September 18th to September 29th 2025. This year’s exhibition, called Treasure in the Dark, will take visitors through the journey of royal insignia during World War II. It will tell the riveting story of the jewels using materials from the CPR Archive, SPH collections, and the CTK Photo Archive. There will also be numerous period photographs and tangible objects to enhance the experience.
The National Museum has just opened a new exhibition titled People and their Ancestors, which explores millions of years of human history. This exhibition goes beyond fossils, narrating the captivating tale of humanity as a whole. For 60 days, from August 25 to October 23, 2025, the museum will feature a world-renowned display of two of the most notable australopithecines, the original fossils of one of man’s earliest and rarest ancestors, Lucy and Selam. Both fossils are incredibly rare treasures from Ethiopia. Lucy has been on display outside of Ethiopia only in the USA, while Selam has never been seen outside of Ethiopia before! These exhibits were generously loaned to Prague by the Ethiopian Ministry of Tourism from the National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. Expect a big turnout during this exceptional event, so it’s important to purchase timed tickets.
From September 12 to December 12, 2025, the National Museum is organizing another remarkable exhibition. Titled 100 objects, 100 stories, this showcase is a collaboration with the National Palace Museum in Taiwan, featuring rare items from the collections of Chinese emperors. An important cultural relic of Taiwan, a jade sculpture of a cabbage, has also been loaned to the National Museum for this exhibition.
The National Gallery Prague invites you to attend its exhibition Women, Masters, Artists: 1300-1900 at the Wallenstein Riding Hall, which will be open until November 2, 2025. This exhibition highlights the artistic contributions of women from the Middle Ages through the end of the 19th century.
In 2025, the National Heritage Institute will celebrate the 150th anniversary of Bedřich Smetana’s symphonic poem Vltava, which premiered on April 4, 1875. A highlight of the Vltava Famous & Navigable project will be the exhibition by the same name at the Prague Castle Riding Hall. The exhibit Vltava famous & navigable, available from September 5, 2025 to January 4, 2026, will focus on the Vltava River as an important national symbol and a remarkable cultural and natural phenomenon, examined in social, economic, and cultural-historical contexts. The exhibit will showcase works of art inspired by the Vltava, along with archaeological discoveries from its riverbed, technical innovations, and vintage photographs.
Autumn in Prague with children
Until the end of September 2025, families can still enjoy a delightful exhibition at Strahov Monastery titled Večerníček celebrates 60 years. This exhibition is sure to delight both kids and adults who grew up watching beloved characters like Bob and Bobek, Maxipes Fík, Rumcajs, and others. It features artwork, original sketches, illustrations, and puppets created by renowned animators such as Zdeněk Miler, Radek Pilař, Václav Čtvrtek, Zdeněk Smetana, Adolf Born, and Vladimír Jiránek. Additionally, there’s an interactive exhibition Telka celebrates 70 at Czech Television for visitors to enjoy.
If you and your children enjoy animals, make sure to visit the Prague Zoo located in Troja. You can see the popular gorilla exhibit called Booking Dja, where male gorilla Kisuma, female Duni, and the daughters of famous Moji have found a home, alongside many other animals including guereza monkeys, catfish, and armadillos, as well as sloths. The newest exhibition at Zoo Prague is Gobi, which represents the Mongolian landscape that is home to Przewalski’s horses. This main enclosure spans 2,000 m2, and its designers worked to create an environment that closely resembles the dry steppe of Central Asia. They also feature animals like the desert cat known as manul, and a special pavilion houses the legendary olgo chorchoi, Tatar grape. Other exciting exhibits include Darwin’s Crater, showcasing the wildlife of Australia and Tasmania—particularly the endangered Tasmanian devils—and Reed’s Pavilion, known as Parrot Paradise. The popular Valley of the Elephants also attracts many visitors. Among the unique inhabitants, the Prague Zoo is proud to have the luskous (the first baby born in Europe here in 2023), velvet-headed collared agamas, various reptiles, wombats, crows, and burrowing owls.
As fall approaches, pumpkins will return to the Troja Botanical Garden for the exhibition Pumpkin Autumn. This year’s pumpkin showcase will be held from October 10 to November 2, 2025. The pumpkin displays can inspire your own autumn decorations. From November 28, 2025 to February 15, 2026, visit the garden during the Crystal Garden exhibition, where you’ll find stunning glass installations by glassmaker Jiří Pačink. Visit in the evening when the glass sculptures twinkle in the dark—a truly enchanting experience.
In the new building of the National Museum, children and their guardians will find the Children’s Museum. This uniquely designed exhibition emphasizes child creativity and allows them to explore the world around them. Bring your kids to an exhibition that fosters inquiry, imagination, and creativity! The ten core themes encourage playful engagement, offering a completely fresh perspective on natural, social, and symbolic worlds, allowing children to choose how and if they connect with the themes presented. Children can touch everything and experiment with how things work. The Children’s Museum is designed for kids aged 4 and older, and tickets can be obtained from the New National Museum Building with a timed entry. Tickets for a 1.5-hour slot can be purchased 30 days in advance online or at the ticket office for a set price of 140 crowns. Kids will also find fun at the National Museum of Agriculture and an interactive exhibition entitled Photosynthesis, which will run until December 31, 2025.
Autumn gastronomic experiences
This weekend, on September 6-7, 2025, the 18th annual Vintage at Prague Castle will take place in the Royal Garden of Prague Castle. Guests will have the chance to taste high-quality wines from across our wine regions and delicious food from Czech brands Klasa and Regional Food. Vintage at St. Clare Vineyard invites everyone to partake in the harvest festivities this year on September 13-14, 2025. It promises excellent wines, a diverse cultural program, and beautiful vineyard views. Additionally, the Karlin Wine Festival is set for Sunday, September 14, 2025, in Karlínské Square. Attendees can look forward to great wines from Bohemia, Moravia, and even from abroad. This event will also feature local bourch and plenty of tasty food along with wonderful music. Furthermore, on September 20, 2025, a traditional Oktoberfest will kick off at the Malešice microbrewery, lasting for 14 days.
As the scents of pork roasts, ribs, and delightful dishes fill Smíchovská náplavka on November 8, 2025, the traditional Pork Party will be celebrated. Visitors can delight in both traditional and modern recipes prepared from pork, including the popular sale of specialties such as pork sausages, liver, ovar, yam, and various types of sausages. The seventeenth edition of the Letná Geese festival, featuring guided tastings of St. Martin’s Day and young wines from leading Moravian and Czech producers, will take place on November 15 in front of the Agricultural Museum in Letná.
