Endless Adventures Await: Explore Jičín, the Enchanting City of Fairy Tales with Your Kids!

Children in Jičín will once again receive the special key to the town, sending the local mayor off on vacation and announcing that the fairy tale laws are in effect. It’s not a revolution, just a celebration! September 10 marks the 35th year of the beloved event called Jičín – the city of fairy tales. From now until September 14, 2025, children will take over the city and their laws will be displayed on the Valdice Gate throughout the festival. Swearing and spitting are not allowed, while smiling and good cheer are encouraged.

In the historic center of the town, visitors can explore the medieval sub-castle featuring crafts, where there will be demonstrations and educational activities explaining what life was like in the Middle Ages. Entire classes can participate and enjoy craft activities to try their hand at. The festival will also emphasize environmental aspects, focusing on not just the topic of recycling, but also providing practical solutions.

The festival program in Valdštejn Square will once again be completely free throughout the event. Admission fees apply in Castle Park on Saturday, September 13, 2025. For the first time this year, advance tickets will be available at a discounted price. Tickets can also be bought at the entrance gates for 250 CZK for adults, while for youth aged 6 to 18 years, the cost will be 150 CZK, and they will be sold at both entrances to the park.

The festival will feature author readings, creative workshops led by various secondary schools showcasing their specialties, as well as workshops from sheltered organizations for individuals with disabilities, street theatre performances, singing, dancing, and the castle park will host tournaments, fencing, crossbow shooting, and falconry. The five colorful days will be filled with intriguing programs, exciting facts, and meet-and-greets with esteemed personalities; theatre performances, exhibitions, concerts, and the Fairytale Newspaper will keep everyone informed about the events happening in the Fairytale Town.

Diverse festival program and many notable guests

This year, the Jičín Fairy Tale Festival introduces a new feature called Eco-park, located in the Masaryk Theatre. Children will have access to craft workshops with entertainers like weavers, blacksmiths, and carvers. Additionally, there will be the popular fair, thrilling carnival rides, and a magical train. A wide range of activities for both children and adults will be held in the square again.

Many esteemed guests will attend the festival this year. Performers like Barbora Poláková, Míša Růžičková, Tereza Balonová, BibiBum, Queenways, and others will take the stage in the castle park. To cap it all off, the organizers are planning an extraordinary performance from V.O.S.A Theatre on Saturday evening in Valdštejn Square.
