This Weekend, Mělník Vintage Festival Takes Over the Town at the Confluence

Mělník vintage is an event with a rich history that dates back to the 9th century. It began when Princess Ludmila founded the first vineyard on the slopes where the Elbe and Vltava rivers meet. Ever since, the community has celebrated a successful grape harvest every autumn. The first official vintage took place in 1911, but there was a long pause of 11 years before it returned, becoming even more notable with a visit from President Masaryk. Following that, the wine festivals sporadically returned to Mělník until they eventually became a regular occasion and an important highlight of the cultural season.

This year, Mělník is set to host a lively three-day wine festival from Friday, September 19 to Sunday, September 21, 2025. At the Mělník vintage, you have the opportunity to sample burgundies and wines from local winemakers, all while exploring the historic town that sits above these rivers, rich in wine-making traditions. The musical performances will feature an impressive range of genres, from folk and brass music to big band swing, mainstream pop, rock, and even hip hop.

Tasting Fine Wines and Finding Relaxation at the Regional Museum

For the tasting of fine wines, the Guild of Czech Winemakers has created a peaceful space where visitors can take a break from the busy celebrations and enjoy a variety of delicious food specialties. As in previous years, the Mělník Regional Museum will be part of the traditional Mělník Vintage Festival! At the museum café, situated among the historic walls, visitors can sample Czech wines primarily from Mělník and Velké Žernosek. The museum’s atrium will serve as a quiet retreat for those looking to escape the excitement of the Vintage Festival for a little while.

The festival features a diverse lineup sure to delight fans of all kinds of art, history, street markets, or art workshops for kids. In addition to a fair, bourbon stalls, and specialty foods, visitors can also experience street performers, accordion players, and a charming fair in the historic center. This whimsical fair showcases a tiny old carousel filled with colorful characters like dancers, a magician, puppeteers, a blacksmith, acrobats, and accordion players. These lively figures bring back the magic of the old fair days, reminding everyone of when fantasy and wonder were pure and the simple performances brought joy and amazement to audiences of all ages.
