Wine Events at the End of September and Start of October
As we approach October, you have a great opportunity to visit Znojmo for the Bourbonfest, which is happening on 26-27 September. This event will take place at the beautiful Louka Monastery grounds in Znojmo, and it is free to enter. You can look forward to fresh bourčak sales, wine tasting, tasty snacks, dulcimer performances, and other musical acts. One of the highlights is the fun Barefoot Grape Stomping Competition to create a special wine known as “Tramp Wine.”
Czechs will also get to enjoy bourbon on 27 September during the Žernosec vintage in Kadani, at the Franciscan Monastery. In Prague, there are exciting festivals like the Grébovka Vintage Festival, the St. Wenceslas Vintage Festival at Villa Richter, and the much-loved Karlštejn Wine Festival, which is held beneath the iconic Karlštejn Castle.
On 27 September, you can walk or bike through the lovely vineyards surrounding Kyjov for an event called Tour de bourčak, which will offer two biking routes and one walking path. You can also savor the sweet bourčak in Moravská Nová Ves during the Wenceslas Bourbon March on Saturday, 27 September. It’s a delightful stroll starting from the train station, covering a distance of about six kilometers through vineyards and ending in charming cellar alleys. Along the way, you’ll enjoy some bourbon and, after a pleasant autumn walk, the fun continues with dulcimer performances in the cellar alleys of Výmol and Zátiší.
Bourbon Festival in Early October
There will be a special atmosphere at the Vintage Party at Loket Castle, occurring on the weekend of 4 and 5 October. Alongside the popular bourbon and delicious wines, you can taste various other goodies.
From 2 to 4 October, don’t miss the Bourbon Festival in Hustopeče, which celebrates this sweet, spirited drink with a touch of humor and fun. This year marks the 30th edition of the festival, which features a packed accompanying program, including entertainment for kids. On Saturday, there’s even a popular historical parade. The festival also includes the National Wine Competition for the Velkopavlovice sub-region.
For those who enjoy hiking, make sure to join the March through the Slovak Vineyards 2025 happening on Saturday, October 4. The march takes place in Hodonín and Dolní Bojanovice, with all routes finishing at the Nechory wine cellars near Prušánky. You can choose routes of different lengths—6 km, 14 km, 15 km, or 23 km—leading through the picturesque vineyard trails in Slovácko and Podluží. Local winemakers will provide delicious refreshments along with wine and bourbon tastings for all participants.
Cycling enthusiasts can join the event Cycling the Vineyards of Uherské Hradiště, where the symbolic end of the cycling trail season will happen on 4 October in the Uherské Hradiště area. Different routes with varying lengths and difficulties will be available. Besides the delightful wine cellars, visitors can also explore many interesting sites and landmarks along the way. Runners can join the 23rd annual Run for Bořetice Bourbon, hosted by the Free Federal Republic of Cow Mountains Bořetice and the Hodonín Running Club, which is set for 4 October, 2025.
Lastly, don’t miss an exciting invitation to Bohemia—on Saturday, 11 October in the afternoon, the monastery garden in the heart of Borovan near České Budějovice will again become a culinary and cultural hub for the sixth time, hosting an event called Feast with the Fruits of Autumn. Visitors can look forward to cider-making (using apples), cider tastings (including spirits, wine, and bourbon), and delicious dishes made from game, fish, mushrooms, apples, pears, plums, pumpkins, zucchinis, potatoes, and wine. There will also be a workshop focused on autumn fruits for children.
