Tiburtina Ensemble Celebrates St. Zdislava – Your Guide to Breaking Free from Boredom!

Seven seconds. That’s the time it takes for one note to echo in the Basilica of St. Lawrence and St. Zdislava located in Jablonné v Podještědí. This year, the Lípa Musica festival is returning after several years spent restoring the church. The basilica’s remarkable acoustics, which produce an unusually long echo, make it perfect for vocal performances and organ music. In this enchanting space, the 27 September 2025 Tiburtina Ensemble will premiere their program dedicated to St. Zdislava, titled “St. Zdislava at the Court of Heaven“.

The evening’s music will focus on choral and multi-voice pieces from the Czech repertoire from the Middle Ages. The Tiburtina Ensemble will utilize the unique acoustics of the basilica, which, due to its long echo, is exceptionally fitting for sacred music. They will feature organist Eva Bublová, who will play selected pieces specifically chosen for her majestic instrument. The audience will be treated to compositions by remarkable composers from the early half of the 20th century, who were true icons of their time.

Music and painting combined in tribute to the saint

Music has the power to fill the temple with intense emotions, yet its impact is fleeting—it only lasts in the memories of those who hear it. Lípa Musica Festival is also crafting a lasting reminder of this year’s return to Jablonné. The artist Martina Chloupa, who created the visual identity for the festival, has painted an image of St. Zdislava, the patron saint of the Liberec region, for the local monastery. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of her canonization, adding special importance to this event. The artwork will be unveiled right after the concert, symbolically merging music and art in honor of the saint.

Lípa Musica could easily present some attractive concerts, which would already surpass what the venue usually offers. But the organizers strive for more, looking to provide a deeper experience that adds to public conversation. They aim to elevate the music they’re presenting by incorporating an additional layer of context that isn’t always common. Therefore, this year’s festival is framed by the motto Music, Humanity.
